i have been having a problem with dvd shrink as of late...everytime i try to burn something and the time length of whatever i'm burning is over 2 hours after it encodes it and ask me to insert a blank disc it tells me that there is not enough space on the disc to burn it...when before it would burn anything no matter what the time length of it was...i don't know if my compression settings or whatever is not set or what happened....can anyone help please?

Go into EDIT/Preferences, and check if the disk size is set to DVD5, DVD9 or Custom. If it is Custom than change it to either DVD5 or DVD9, what ever you use to burn to. That should eliminate your problem. Also in compression check Automatic.
For speed, check how much free room you have on your HD. If almost full, than everything will slow down.

After checking the things Suba suggested, you could also try running through Deep Analysis first.

Also i forgot to mention that i use dvd decrypter first then burn with dvd shrink not sure if i have to setup my dvd decrypter too?

Dvd Decrypter hasn't been updated in a long time. However, same programmer created the best burn engine out there: ImgBurn. Free from http://ImgBurn.com

Might want to pick up DvdFab as it can handle the encryptions on all newer movies. Also free. http://dvdfab.com.

Then the process looks like this:

Rip to HDD using DvdFab.

Transcode using Dvd Shrink.

Burn with ImgBurn.

i've tried everything i know to try and it still won't burn....i don't understand it cause it encodes and all but when ask me to insert disc then it says not enough space on the disc but they r the same disc i have always been using...what am i doing wrong?

EVERYTHING! I think NOT! You have all the helpful suggestions you needed to correct your problem. I will be more direct and less polite.

First made sure you have hard disk space C: must be checked for sure we will check the rest because you did not state where the image was being stored. If you are set to write to the disk directly you only need to check c:
1) Empty your trash can first
2) In file explorer go to properties start with C: and check the disk space of each disk. Make sure they all have more than 10 G.

Next insure the error is not copy protection. Yes, some copyprotections fool the decoders into copying the same information over and over again making a huge file which will not fit on a disk. This is where I think your problem lies reading your last message.
DO ALL what 7thsinger suggested The guy may easly have burned more than a 1,000 disks and has run into 99.999% of all the problems you can have. He and all your help have been experts. You need to stop second guessing them and just do what they tell you to do.

If you still have a problem it will be something new.

I thought of one more thing after I posted. You might want to look at the problem just so you can see it for your self. You might want to look at the size of the temp disk image in file explorer. Unfortunatly, I can't remember what its name is where shrink stashes it other than it is on C:. It is an ISO file so you can search for it.

Demon1777, we're going to start at the top, and if you heed these words you will burn.

First. Decrypt movie using DvdFab Hd Decrypter, and rip to hard drive. We can do this two ways to conserve space.

1. Rip main movie only as opposed to full disc. Since you should own whatever it is you are backing up, you don't need all the extras and such anyway.

2. Rip full disc and process (clean) through an indespensable little tool called FixVts.

Next, after running through FixVts or ripping main movie only, we're going to open Dvd Shrink. After it analyzes the files rid youself of the not needed foreign lanugages, unreferenced material, etc.

Hit Analysis at the top of the screen. It will Analyize the files then return to the main screen. From there hit Backup! and it should work just fine.

From there, since Shrink does not burn as you keep saying, you'll need to open ImgBurn to complete the burn. ImgBurn is free from the link i previously provided.

A few little tips on top of what the other posters have mentioned.

1. Good blank media. I cannot stress this enough. I see burn and playback problems constantly that could be rectified if nOObs would believe the Members here. Cheap media is garbage! Use the good stuff. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, of Sony. Period.

2. Burn between 6x and 8x max. No need to attempt any quicker.

3. Don't multitask while your burn.

Could it be that it is telling you that there is not enough space on your hard drive(disk) for the iso image? and not the DVD disK like you are saying.

You may need to delete some of the older ISo images on the HD.

A disk image is built on your hard disk before it get burned. If you do not have space for the image that will give you an error.

It is just as likely, that problem is copy protection. I have seen cases where I have gotten that error and it was due to copy protection. Why, because after the ripper was updated the file was big enough to fit on one disk. That was the only change. Shrink's last build was put out many years ago like maybe 5 years ago. Wrinkles in protection come out monthly. You are lucky if Shrink can do the job alone. DFab has the last competent uptodate ripper that you can get for free. You are foolish not to use it.

As I said before, you really just need to blindly follow advice and see it it works. You learn something either way. By ignoring the advice you learn nothing and go no where.

borstalll, you are way out of your league in this discussion. Yes, it is much easier to use Shrink alone then a ripper, then FixVTS then Shrink. I guess you think you got it all figured out! You don't. You can even use disk copy to copy your disk and not ever use Shrink. That would be faster still. The problem is they don’t work!

The re author process is not an editor. Yes you can select the movie and select where that movie starts and stops but that is not editing. We all assumed Demon1777 was well beyond the basics of Shrink. He is a Junior member.

There are copy protection schemes that can fool Shrink into copying a scene thousands of time. The main movie for Madagascar was 12 g. That was a dead giveaway since the compressed file was bigger than a 2 layer DVD. Even if you could chunk out a piece of the movie it will be junk.

Shrink has not been updated in what 5 years. Copy protection is on going. Most of the posts on this forum are trying to get around copy protection. A good bit of them are posted by persons using multiple packages not just shrink. Sometimes the protection schemes are out before the fixes. There have been hundreds of protection improvements since Shrink was updated. Anyone of those will wreck your project.

Borstalll, I would write less and read more. Many newbies have considerable knowledge and know how. They are assets to the forum. But ALL non – newbees have considerable knowledge unless they are real stupid. Afterdawn promotes VERY slowly. This discussion included 2 members and a senior member. I know you have no idea of what kind of expertise was weighing in. I think I made Junior member at about the time Shrink closed up shop, 4-5 years ago.

You said this is another thread, and i'll reiterate the same answer to it.

There are much better programs than magic dvd copier out there for making backup's. They're already listed here.

Personally, i'd place magic dvd copier into one catergory...my recycle bin.
