Currently at the moment, whenever I switch on my computer it boots okay but just before you get to the screen where it says Windows Xp with the blue loading bar it comes up with a horizontal line across the screen, then a error message comes up saying: 'Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : \WINDOWS\system32\c_1252.nls You can attempt to repair this file my starting Windows Setup uding the original Setup CD-ROM. Select "r" at the first screen to start repair' The message above s currently what the computer is saying, whenever I then select repair it goes to a black screen where I have to type something in I dont know what I have to do from here can anyone help me thanks.
try running the chkdsk c:/f from the dos console. The problem your encountering sometimes happens if the computer was improperly shutdown, the chkdsk command can fix some the corruption that occured. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315265
when you say the dos console what do you mean, because i typed in chkdsk on its own in the black repair screen and it took like 3 hours to complete up to 100% and said one or more errors occured. Am i doing this right? Thanks
