Hi,

I recently converted a VCD to XVID format using autogk. I opened the DAT file in autogk, set mp3 192 kbps audio, 640x480 resolution and allowed 8 Meg / min with regards to filesize. The video was just under 91 minutes and I set a filesize of 728 megabytes.

The audio was sync'ed fine on the VCD, but seems to be a about a second out on the avi file. I tried opening the file in AVI-Mux GUI but it tells me there is a delay of 0 milliseconds on the audio, which is confusing because I know the sync on it is wrong.

Also, when I try watching the file on my PS3, the video plays fine but the audio comes through as a load of garbage.

Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

If you use 'VLC' as the media player, you can 'Ctrl k' or 'Ctrl l' to display the correction and adjust the sync during playback.

Once you know the correct setting, load the file into VirtualDub.

Click 'Audio' 'Interleaving' and in the 'Audio Skew Correction' box enter the number (enter a minus number if the audio is behind the video).
Click the first play button on the lower left corner of the main window and see if it's ok.

Save the file by first clicking 'Video' 'Direct Stream Copy' (prevents the video from being re-compressed) then 'File' 'Save as AVI'.

Thanks for your help. I managed to get a watchable file by using AVI-Mux GUI to put the audio delay to -300ms.

And my PS3 is playing it properly as well :D

That's a good idea - calculating the delay and setting it in AVI-MUX GUI.And it would work for MKV too.
