hdmi cable from laptop to hdtv and dvd player to hdtv... no audio

    i just got an hdmi cable and tried hooking up both my dvd player and my laptop to my hdtv... LG 42" 1080p..... well i can get any audio... am i missing something? Im new to hdmi so if anyone can help, id appreciate it. Thanks!

    the model of my tv is 42LB5D, and i checked and it says it has hdmi 1.3. I bought an HMDI 1.3 cable to match that and this is why i dont know what im doing wrong... thanks for any replies

    You will need to go into your sound card settings. If you are using the Realtek HD audio driver or something similar, you should find a setting that enables you to send sound over your HDMI cable. You will need to make sure that you select a compatible format that your TV can receive. 2 channel PCM should be all that is needed.
