I have Vista (bleh) and the Vista compatible PeerGuardian beta. However, my 1.6 uTorrent client is not working too well. To further complicate things, the system is a laptop connecting wirelessly (ironic huh?) to a router. The router is setup to assign a predefined IP address to the laptop's MAC address but it does not for some reason. Even when I assigned a port to the randomly selected IP, the port would show up as closed on the port test at the utorrent site. In addition, uPnP is not working for whatever reason in uTorrent. I checked and the Vista uPnP service is started and the router is setup to use it. Also, the uPnP service works fine on the router because my XP desktop used it. I wondered about uTorrent 1.7 but am discouraged with the rumors of possible spyware/trojen code in it. What I need is a capable torrent client that will use uPnP and is compatible with Vista. Will someone please direct me to a trustworthy client? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean your expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?

Are you disabling PG before taking the port test at the uTorrent site?
The utorrent IPs are on the blocklists and this will automatically cause a fail on their port test.
You could also check at Can You See Me. The blocklists won't affect performance in uTorrent otherwise.

Azureus is vista compatible, but I am not a believer in the spyware/trojan stories on uTorrent. It has been quite some time since the uTorrent/Bittorrent merge that caused those rumors and I have seen no evidence that there is any such malware in uTorrent/Bittorrent.

PeerGuardian was closed and the uTorrent port check failed. I also tried that canyouseeme.org site and it also failed. I guess I will try uTorrent 1.7.7 hoping it is clean. If the familiar uTorrent doesn't work, I guess I might try out Azureus for a change. Thanks for the help, I'll post back if I have further problems.

Just so you know.. Azureus works beautifully on vista. It takes advantage of the higher system specs and runs a real treat..
Also no need for peerguardian (always a bit of a problem that one) as it uses it's own ip shield plugin.

I'm not going to comment on ”torrent again apart from to point out that it has now been completely banned from 5 private trackers I'm a member on due (apparently) to proven memory leaks and packet spraying.

Free open source software = made by end users who want an application to work. Just put your hands up its a raid!

Hmm, well I installed 1.7.7 and it's working just fine. It correctly opened a port with UPnP and it has full connectivity. If it starts acting up though, I'll look into Azureus. Thanks for the help guys.
