AVI is just a container, and inside you most likely have a video encoded with Divx or Xvid,should work with your player "as is". You can load the video in GSpot, it will tell you what codec was used. If you have a RW disc, burn the AVI and most likely it will play without any further processing.
They appear to be DivX so thats good. Sorry for the dumb extra question but I am used to burning all sorts of stuff but I have never burnt an avi/dvix/xvid vid to CD before. I have progs such as Nero/DVD Fab/ DVD ripper etc etc...all Nero does is burn the XviD to a very poor quality SVCD file where the audio and vid is out of synch. Am I missing something here...like a suitable program ? :-)

You do not need to burn a SVCD, VCD or whatever, by doing that you convert to a different video format and lose quality.it defeats the purpose of having a Divx player! Just burn a plain data DVD!
My Sony plays video CDs and I have tons of those that I hardly use..thought it would be easy to burn to CD. I'll stick to the tried and trusted DVD burning...as you say, otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose of good quality DivX.
Then if the AVI is less than 700Mb(or whatever the CDs capacity is), burn a data CD, you can do that even just using Windows. If they are a bit too big, you can trim the ends(like the begining logos and the credits at the end, if any were encoded).
I would say get a DVD+/-RW. You can burn your 5-6 movies, and if not like them, delete and burn again!
I must be missing something here because I can't get a avi file to play on my Sony...or more to the point burn it so it will play. Tried doing a data disc burn but the player won't recognise the disk.
Is this likely to be an AVI format issue or do most domestic DVD players expect the actual CD to be burnt in a cerian "way" ?
I am left converting avi to DVDPal and using a DVD to play it...which takes time of course. Any help appreciated
Betcha this is one for the books..Just Downloaded Lost Sea 1,25Episodes. Unfortunately U can only get 12 Episodes
on one Disc. My problem, being Ep 24& 25 are joined.So I have to reduce the size to get 13Eps on 1 Disc. Any
program I use (AVI Recomp, Auto GN, DrDivX) will reencode to 83% then shut down. I even split them into seperate
files Ep24 & Ep25, Episode 24 will reduce OK, But Ep25 will go to 83% and shut down. Does anyone have a suggestion on this
or a cure all
