Vista Ult.
Ridata 8x dvd+rw
NEC ND-3540A firmware 1.W5

getting error in nero 7.10.1.2 formatting disk failed/ illegal disk.

not sure if i need a rom update or new media.

thanks

ps- also tried roxio suite 10, dvd fab, dvd shrink all giving similar errors- 'cannot format disk'. DVD+-R writing is ok on this drive.

sounds like you may have some doggy discs:(

try changing the source of your burn, use different files and see how that comes out, can it burn CD-R or make DATA DVDS?

no luck with imgburn, forgot to mention that one. 'incompatible format'

rom is 1.W5 but i see 1.F2 as latest when 1.W5 seems it would be older. i don't have the file i flashed with awhile ago.

cdr and DVD+R is ok, never used ridata on the drive tho, was using maxell in the past.

you may have to stick with the DVD dash R format or the DVD plus R format only!
