Just got one of these DH20A4P players and I'm throughly disappointed. This 16X Drive is burning no faster then the 8X it replaced. I have tried everything: Prodisc, Tayao, Sony +R -R same exact result. Drives are fully defragged. Tried the recorder as slave and master on IDE 1 and IDE2 as well as an third IDE via PCI Card. Only payed $36 for the drive but it's not really any faster then the 8x TDK 880N it replaced. Didn't try a new player yet because I'm not sure it's the player. Just burned a full disc, same prodisc 16X. 20X - 8 minutes 16X - 8 minutes 8X - 8minutes 20 seconds. Latest firmware, set to DMA. Any help or thoughts are appreciated. Brian
I got one cuz it was cheap, NewEgg was selling them for $23 shipped. I think it's a actually a BenQ model. Sure is a noisy thing. Can't help you on speeds though as I usually use TYG02's (-R 8X) discs. But some Opto 16X +R I tried will only burn at 6X, and rather poorly at that, even after updating the FW. Burns Ritek CD's nicely though.
