    Hi all,

I have an original copy of a game called Arcanum. I bought the game a long time ago and clearly remember it working without any issues. Recently when I tried to install it on my PC again the following message comes up as all the load bars are full: "Error reading arcanum2.dat verify that file exists and that you can acess it".

I hit explore on the CD and find the file no problem. So it does exist. Upon surfing the web for answers the best I could find was to copy the file manually into the game folder...problem is, game folder does not exist unless you finish the install :)

    Can someone help?

I actually went so far as to download the game from GameCopyWorld (to my undestanding this is not piracy if you actually own the game), but I get a mss32.dll error come up. I'm aware that this has little chance of being adressed considering the piracy issues :)

What can I do to make the game work...I got the CD but cannot play it, which is pretty annoying.

If this is a really old game (and I suspect it is by the mss32.dll problem. likely a windows98 game.) try running the installer in a different compatibility mode..

Right click the setup.exe (or whatever it is called) and go top properties>compatibility> 2000 or 98/95 whatever.. and see if that helps.
Some old games don't like the NTFS filesystem so you might even need to run it is a dos emulator.

What do you mean by running a dos emulator?

I tried changing compatibility to 98/ME and 2000...to no avail. Stil cannot read arcanum2.dat theres no option in compatibility for XP, does that mean it cannot run on my system? I have Microsoft XP Pro.

Seems that either its not compatible with XP or the file is corrupted.
