Recently, Media Player has stopped playing my avi files. I'll open them, they'll seemingly load, but it just sits there. I hit play and nothing. I hit pause then resume nothing. I move the status bar 10 minutes into the file. Nothing. I just get a black screen and no sound.

The files will play in Nero Player.

I have the most up-to-date Media Player and it does not indicate any codexi are missing.

Suggestions?

The fact that Nero plays these AVI files without problems would be an indication that it may be a codec-related issue. First, try using a different media player i.e. VLC and MPC. If you're still seeing the same problems, try installing FFDShow.

Acquire GSpot.

Sounds more like a codec conflict/corruption.
You might have 2 codecs trying to play the same video at the same time or
something. If FFDShow is installed and configured, WMP should be able to play the video. And since FFDShow is installed, probably GSpot will say all is good. I would try to uninstall/re-install the codecs.
