Ok so here's the deal. I have a Compaq Presario R3000 with Windows XP installed. When ever I plug in a USB floppy device and then unplug the device, my USB ports stop working. The only way I can get them working again is if I reboot my laptop. Anyone know of a hotfix or something that can solve this issue? I thought about maybe uninstalling the driver then re-installing, but I don't think that's going to do me any good. I should have all the latest and greatest Windows updates, so I'm a bit lost.
Hello new AD member and good day to you!! when taking out usb devices be sure to go through the safely remove hardware wizard, the only exception to this rule is printers when new hardware is installed often time it will be registered under a universal controller, for what ever reason which is not clear to me this messes with the root hub often.....boot into safe mode>enter the device manager and uninstall all usb drivers> universal controllers, enhanced controllers and any other devices first then the usb root hubs....... upon reboot> login of windows your drivers will be reinstalled, amazingly not one MS call center even knows it yet LOL but it has had a very high success rate over the internet (forums) simple discharge your mother board of all electricity.......this is done by taking any power source out of your computer (battery, outlet power, solar panel JK) and letting your computer sit for about 15-30 minutes, this corrects many usb issues:0 SP3 XP came out ... http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110&displaylang=en hope this helps! post back! -tripplite
What's up trippy? Yes, I use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option every time. This is where it hangs when I remove the USB floppy drive. It doesn't do it with any other USB device. So you think booting into safe mode then uninstalling and reinstalling will fix the issue? It's strange how it only occurs with the USB floppy drive and it's not floppy drive specific, it occurs on any USB floppy device. I'm going to mess around with this today and see what I come up with. I will post back my results. PS, I love the illustrations! It just gets me going...mmmmm...you know how to tickle my fancy trippy...almost like one of those pop-up books... **update** So I did a little more research and supposedly SP2 was suppose to fix this issue with all these AMD laptops. It only affected those for some reason. I have SP2 on my laptop..I'm going to try a few things and if that doesn't work..screw it, I'm going to put in a request for a new laptop. That sounds better to me then fixing the issue with the USB ports, eh? Yeah it does!
windows often gets out of touch with "jack in the box" usb ports, many a times it help people i cant tell you how many people have this issue but have never tried this, ------------ amazingly not one MS call center even knows it yet LOL but it has had a very high success rate over the internet (forums) simple discharge your mother board of all electricity.......this is done by taking any power source out of your computer (battery, outlet power, solar panel JK) and letting your computer sit for about 15-30 minutes, this corrects many usb issues:0 -------------- am telling you this really really works, if you request i'll link you to a forum where about 5, 6 people couldn't get a usb device to work....tried it and BAM their usbs were up and running again!! here is a USB error/USB read patch that i uploaded a while ago.... http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?a3zwvzmzcos now although its meant for dell computers dont worry it should work fine on any other setup.....make a restore point before you run it i guess........ dont worry the graphics were uploaded for a different user....nothing special for you goody LOL! -tripplite
Well, uninstalling then reinstalling didn't do sh!t... I'm tired of this slow POS anyways. I'm putting a request in for a new laptop... But did this solve the problem? Or was this just a fix to get the USB ports working until the next time you try to unplug the device.
this worked on my desktop and apparently the same goes for laptops, usb issues suck complete ass with xp......
