DivX subtitles positioning and forced subtitles

I have a DivX file. I have a .srt / .sub file. I want to put them together.

Now what should I use for that? I have AVIAddXSubs, and I open the movie file. I would like to edit some of the settings (Font and color). Positioning is a real $%&*# though. Do I just have to keep redoing everything and trying it until I get the subtitles in the right place? What size should the subtitle bitmap be (dimensions of my movie?) and whats a good rule of thumb for vertical positioning?

And is there a way to turn on forced subs for DivX (IE translation subs) and how would I do that?
