I am getting and error 16 on my xbox and ive read the forums and it said if you have an error 16 you have to hotswap to get it back to Normal but i was wondering If i take out the hardrive and put in a New one if that would fix the problem or would i still have to use the hotswap method still and 2. also was just curious if u can use like PC Hardrive If i take out the old one out of the xbox and my last question is How do you go by of fixing error code 09 on an xbox also.. kuz i have to xboxes and i want to fix them and one has error code 09 and the other error code 16 on it
Yeah i used the agent under fire exploit softmod on it with the action replay but Now i get an error code 16 thats why i was asking if i just replace the hard drive with a new one if it would fix the problem or would i still have to hotswap it..and also getting an error code 09 and it says im suppose to make a eeprom reader by soldering or something but ive never worked with soldering and I dont want to take a chance on ruining something in the motherboard or anything
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210562 16 - dashboard - Clock cannot be set. Basically it comes down to this. Error 16 has to do with not finding the menu setting with which you can set the clock of the hdd. This happens to a lot of people that erase their hdd (original/upgraded) or MS dashboard files and after that they don't immediatly install the hdd but leave the xbox without power longer than 5 hours. It's all about the hdd can't find the menu with which it can set the clock. This is mostly because the xbox hdd is empty (you removed dashboard or fux0red it via ftp). The problem arises when xbox searches for menu to set clock with, can't find it and voila: error 16. Well read on please! So you have an error 16 huh? Don't worry "nothing" is broken! You have an xbox hdd that is locked. And normally you can boot in original and modded mode. Retail or upgraded doesn't matter. You start playing around with xboxdash.xbe etc. using ftp programs. While doing this you "accidently" remove your MS dashboard and also your alternate dashboard (Evox, etc.) so there is no dash anymore on the xbox hdd. You end the ftp session and after that you shut off your xbox. Normally when you would start up again it gives you an error 13/14 ( no dashboard found). No worries with a slayer Evox cd (and a hardmod), all is ok. BUT this is only WITHIN 3 hours or so. This is because the internal clock of the xbox will only be kept alive by the capacitors for only 3 or 4 hours. So when you leave your xbox unplugged from electricity for over 5 hours after you have played with the .xbe's AND you have removed your (ms and evo-x) dash from your xbox than you are fux0red. Why do you ask? Why can't I boot from disc? Its as follows Xbox starts booting==> (almost 1st thing a xbox does is) searches for internal clock==> doesnt find internal clock because there hasn't been any electricity on the xbox for 5 hours so battery that kept clock alive is empty and clock is gone==> searches for the proper dashboard menu to set clock with ==> doesnt find msdashboard or evo-x dashboard menu becuz you have removed it from the hdd for whatever reasons you had==> xbox gives error 16: cannot set clock. So what do you do about it? Two options! 1. There are some bios'es around that allow the chip to boot past the clocksetting. (do a search!). So how do you get that bios on your chip because you cant boot to a flash program or something? Well you need to have an external flasher. It seems the m8 bios will take care for you of booting past the clocksetting. Or use the latest Xecutor bios 2. This is the more easy and newbie friendly strategy -Get a friend with a modded xbox. -Unlock his hdd with eeprom management from a slayer evo-x cd. -Than, place his hdd in your xbox. -Boot with your chip on. -Now the xbox DOES find a dashboard when you boot in original mode and you can set the time in the msdashboard clock settings. -Shut off xbox and remove your friends hdd -PLace his hdd back in his xbox and lock it again -Install your hdd -(clock has been set) So boot up with slayer cd. -Install normally whatever you wanna install -lock hdd If you get an error 13 after this, please read up on the error 13 explanation! I messed up my first softmod with splinter cell and got this along with error 21. I ended up buying a DuoX-2 mod chip, installed it and have been going strong ever since and I didn't know anything about soldering. It's a pretty fun thing once you get the hang of it and it seemed easier than all the other fixes that were mentioned above.
Ive read this Tutorial but Only a couple of problems 1. i dont have a freind with a Modded Xbox and ive tried the Disk but No luck it wouldnt do anything kuz its not reading the disk at all or nothing? so how do i go by of flashing or finding some kind of xbox flasher to go past the clock settings and How would i use it considering the xbox cant read the cd or something? and how would i go by of finding an internal flasher or the xbox and how would i use it ..sorry about the millions of questions of i really want to get this fixed
try to hotswap the HDD and restore the Dash. if you dont have a copy of the dash on your pc, try googling for one.
Yeah i used the agent under fire exploit on it with action replay but my disk got ruined.another question i have is i have read the hotswap tutorial but it says if you do it wrong u can fry the motherboard on the xbox and computer? and i dont feel like getting fried myself. is there away to do that without getting fried? and my other question is it says to hotswap your suppose to take out the hdd cable but which one is that exactly though?
hotswap sounds like its the only option. the cable thats connected to your computer hdd is the one you have to plug your xbox hdd into. there should be two ide connectors on your computer ide cable. when the xbox goes to error code 16 unplug the ide cable from your xbox hdd but not the power cable then plug it into the second ide connector on your computer. then run xplorer360 and it should show the xbox partitions. make sure the xbox hdd jumper setting is on slave when you do the hotswap. IDE is that long flat gray cable.
how do i set the jumper settings on the xbox hdd because i have never done hotswap in my Life and this is all new to me..but i guess thats the only choice i have left is to hotswap but i will give it a try
the one i have is western digital.. i do have another xbox hdd that i took out of my other xbox but i need like a new motherboard and a new hdd and a new dvd drive kuz my dvd drive is shot also
to set it on slave put the jumper 2 to the right of the ide slot. if thats not the right one, look at the hdd pcb board and look for the letters "SL"
alright i will give it a try if i can remember all this but no i dont have xbox live because i cant afford it and i dont have a router or nothing to get live on. and like i said my xbox isnt working kuz i get an error 09 wich i dont understand and ive read the error code on it but dont help me out much at all
for error code 09 on your other xbox make sure the ide cable is firmly connected to the hdd. if that still doesnt work there might be something wrong with your xbox hdd.
yeah i tried it that way and it didnt do anything and i still had the same error code also.. is there away to like fix the hdd so my xbox can go back to Normal? thats why i was wondering if the hotswap methode would be able to fix error code 09
i dont think it could fix error code 09. you would have to get a modchip and a new hdd and lock the new hdd with your xbox eeprom. or you can build a eeprom reader. there could also be something wrong with your ide cable.
yeah your probably right and im not good with soldering and i cant afford a modchip and everything..so i guess therefore my screwed kuz my hdd is messed up or my cable is messed up or something
you might be able to sell it on ebay broken for $30-$50. also ask some other people to see if you can fix it. im stuck at this point.
