My friend received an older computer with windows 2000. It is password protected (windows) and the former owner does not remember the password. Windows will not load. Any one know how to remove/reset password? She is disabled and cannot afford to buy any programs. Thanks!

Just restart the pc, and push f8 when the computer first turns on in 2 second intervals, this will bring up the advanced startup options screen,,,, select safe mode...

boot it up.. type in or select administrator

then go into the user accounts and change the other accounts password.

    That easy

    jremele,

I already tried that, it didn't work. I still needed a password to get through.

Please help!! I still can't get Windows to open without a password. I went over there today and it is Windows 2000 Professional, if that makes a difference. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is for a disabled woman and 10 year old son that have never owned a computer before. Thanks,

    Sherri
