dvd shrink can't handle the newer movies being it hasn't been updated in years you will need to rip with dvdfab decrypter FIRST!! use this thread.

Is this an original dvd or a backup copy that has a scratch?

Is dvd shrink showing CRC errors? "Cyclitical Redundancy Check errors"

Dvd decrypter and ImgBurn may be able to get through that scratch. They are more aggressive rippers than dvd shrink.

I've seen near perfect dvds giving crc errors while hideous/deeply scratched dvds had no problem ripping.

Then again, encryption can do the same thing-sony/columbia releases.

its the original movie that im trying to copy.

i also need to use the dvd shrink first in order to compress the movie small enough to fit a single layer media. so not using dvd shrink is not an option.

does dvd decrypter do what dvd shrink does?

dvd decrypter rips to hddd only. DVDD has not been up date for 2.5 years . Best to go to dvd fabhddecrypter (free) as the ripper, then use dvd shrink

If it wasnt for bad luck, Id have no luck!

Try following the steps Zoso laid out for you in his first post.

That link outlines the process.

What movie is it that's giving you so much trouble?
