I have a bunch of unencrypted VOB files that I'd like to render as MPEG-2. Anyone know a good program to do this?

VOB files and Mpeg2 files are exactly the same thing ,You can simply rename the VOB to .mpg and it would behave like any Mpeg2 file as Long as there is only one audio and Video Track in the VOB file...If you need to change the Resolution and the Files size then you would need to simply re-encode the Vob/Mpeg2 file...what don"t you tell us what you want to do with these VOB files???

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, they PLAY fine with either VOB or MPG extensions, but I want to EDIT the VOBs, and when I bring them into my current editing programs (Studio, Win Movie Mkr), they say they don't recognize the file. I just want to take out segments from the VOBs and keep only those on my PC or re-encode them to a lower bitrate so they don't take up so much space.

Well You can edit Mpeg/Vob files useing something like Mpeg2VCR, it will edit without any Quality loss and it will handle the AC3 audio in the VOB files...If you are Planning on makeing a DVD out of these VOB files then after editing with something like Mpeg2Vcr you can Demux the audio and Video files into seperate files then re-encode the Video and save the audio and after than Load both files into a DVD authoring Program and make a DVD....

spilfence: He wanted to re-encode the Video because the File size of the VOB file is to large so he needs to re-encode the Video to a Lower bitrate so that the files are smaller and it will Fit on a DVD-R...

Many thnaks Minion. I took my VOB files, joined them together with Mpeg2vcr (great tool btw) and then re-created the DVD using Ulead DVD workshop. I had to do this because one of the original VOB files was corrupt and nothing seemed to want to read it (DVDShrink TMPGEnc etc.) Anyway all sorted now. Is there a better tool than Ulead for creating DVD ?

Well DVD Workshop is an OK Authoring program, I actually used to use it quite a Lot when I used to make a Lot of SVCD"s, But I can"t use it for createing DVD"s because it does not properly support AC3 audio which is the audio format i use most in DVD"s..I use DVD-Lab Quite a Bit and Sonic DVD Producer ,I actually have so many different ones that I have some I haven"t tried yet but DVD-Lab seems to be one of the easier and Functional ones Out there and it will also let you to make DVD"s out of SVCD"s and VCD"s without re-encodeing, so this way you can get 3 or 4 movies on each DVD....Cheers
