I really do not like it, I prefer looking at the the small pic/links and a quick summery of it so I can pick through all the newer news and read the ones I want the big summery and big pic is just screen clutter IMO.

I have no clue where the best place so i put it here LOL

    edit

BTW why not offer a old or simple layout style, I just don't like the new screen clutter like setup.

yeah , i agree. im not trying to bombard AF, i love this site, but the news section is not that great. its too big, like the summaries arent really summaries but like the entire article. its like reading have the article before you actually click the link to it. and the large pictures are obscure. im not saying ditch it completely and go back to the old version, but start with the older version and changing a few stuff.

    just my 2 cents.

You still have the main front page for that? Just tick off the software, etc and you'll have 20 latest news items listed nicely on front page. The old news front page didn't really "work" for most users, as it only listed 11 latest news items and to go past that, you had to go through the archive, with only headlines listed.

Furthermore, the thinking that by making the new front page for news to behave much like most of the blog engines nowadays, we could apply some level of "familiarity" to it, so that new users could grasp the logic behind it immediately.

But hey, feedback is always good. Tell us how you'd prefer to have it improved and we'll consider our options for the next layout update :)

Just got done looking over the home page for AD, ok I do like it but could you add options to use that style of layout when looking through older articles?

Still it might be more effective to ad a min/max option to the news layout, add the option above the first article.

love most of the changes just the big summaries make it hard to glance through the articles and choose which look like worth reading....of coarse I could start posting in every one :p

now that i look at it, i think the only problem for me is that the 'summaries' arent really summaries. like a short intro like the old news did was nice. maybe 3 sentences, give or take, would be nice.

I'm puzzled by the "continue reading" link.. The 4 or 5 items I have read and clicked for more have given 3 or 4 lines more at most.

Why not either adopt a more newspaper type layout.. with a page of headlines and links to the articles.. or print the full piece on the page with links to comments and other articles of similar nature. At the moment it seems to be in "indecision land" of neither one thing or the other.

Hw about this for a suggestion.. Why not the article in the middle.. links to previous and related on the left and links to the rest of the new headlines on the right.. stop press kind of thing... you could use the ticker thing (that we all like) in that area. We were wondering what to do with that neat bit of code... ponder no more ;)
