32" lcd 720p vs. 1080p

Im looking at picking up either a toshiba 32" 720p lcd or the same tv in a 1080p version.

I plan on using the tv to play xbox 360 games, and watch both sd dvds and blu-ray dvds via hdmi output from my pc. Having said that, do you think it is worth the extra money to get the 1080p version? Will I notice a difference in images quality at this size when playing games or watching movies? I plan on having the tv approx. 10ft away from where I sit to watch it.

Well, Obviously 1080p will have a better resolution above 720p. Therefore it should have the better picture quality. If I were you I would go to Best Buy, Circuit City, whatever the closest tech stores that have HDTV's, and look at several 1080p displays compared to 720p. If you don't see much of a difference, go with 720p. If you can notice a difference, then go with 1080p. It really isn't worth the extra money if YOU yourself cannot see the difference. Besides, it all comes down to how things look for you personally (not the guy who says 1080p 100% of the time hands down because that's what he thinks is best). You have to look at it every day for the next X number of years. So make sure it looks good for you.

Even though I've always pushed people to opt for 1080p whenever possible, I must say that with a TV set as "small" as 32", the resolution difference is not noticeable, if you're using it as people would use a TV set (==sit couple of yards/meters away from it, not your nose stuck to the screen). And yes, I know, it seems silly to categorize 32" set as a "small" one, as only couple of years ago it was a big size TV :-) But times change.
To highlight the issue, here in Europe manufacturers don't even sell 1080p TVs in sizes smaller than 37", as it really doesn't have much difference when used as a TV set (some people buy "small" TVs to be PC monitors tho' and for that purpose, obviously, the difference is noticeable, as monitors are typically used on table, you sitting only 2-4 feet away from the screen).
So, as xXx said, test it -- but I recommend that when you go and compare the picture, don't go close to the screen, but instead, imagine sitting on a sofa and what the distance from there would be and compare the sets then. If you can see the difference, enroll yourself for a fighter pilot course and buy the 1080p set :-)

that sounds like some good advice thanks guys! Yea I have really bad eyes (I wear contacts everyday) so I dont think I will become a fighter pilot anytime soon haha! I know best buy has the 720p toshiba in stock but I dont think they carry the 1080p version. Im gunna go there and have them demo a couple tvs for me and go from there.
