You know... I just cant leave this burner alone, LOL. This is a premium TY. I was looking at my stock pile (LOL) of scans for the Dru840's burns, and only 1/12 burns didnt have the initial PI E spike. Otherwise, for its entire burning of 2.5 months and 100+burns, its always present. Any experts care to explain what happens in a TECHNICAL way. Please note, this wouldnt bother me quite as much, if it were not a visible burning flaw. Yah, thats right! Its visible to the human eye. Any takers??? Yes, it does play in the dvd player :D

O-man first off the date on your "scan" might be a little off. hehehe. :p

If the spot is noticeable on the burned disc AFTER the burn and NOT before then I would look at f/w as the culprit. Have you looked at updating or reverting to another f/w version? I still haven't look up the model and make of your little burner yet. If you could give me the EXACT "numbers" to your drive I'll see what I can find, if you haven't already. ;)

NOW looking back at this "anomaly" it has to be only a couple of things in the "system". Are you using the same batch of discs, is the burner doing something, f/w related or otherwise, or is your computer wonking out at some point in the burn for some reason.

At this point see what you get on that front. :)

Burner is Sony DRU840 f/w SS01. This burner is the only one that yields the flaw. The flaw is not on the discs until this burner does its handy work, lol. I would bet that a firmware could fix it. But it MAY have to deal with a flaw that this paticular burner has. So unless the other 840's have the same problem, wish in one hand... Its a shame I cant design my own firmware. Because I can think of a few reasons why it would yield this result logically.
Sonys site has no new releases. I guess I could try a SS25 firm/w from my DRU830 on it. Strange how the f/w number went WAY down for the 840 huh? well... I gotta go to walmart and get some stuff. Hancock is on my to do list. :D <------ VERY BIG SMILE
    THANKS GM

LOL. The date holds certain significance, plus I was playing around. I love playing around with the art programs. Know that I will NEVER falsify a quality scan without saying so though. What would be the point? Bragging? Wouldnt really be any pride there. Here is yet another AWESOME premium TY. "Now thats what im talkin about" Pretty odd looking jitter, but VERY satisfied!

Good point garmoon.. I've only had a couple of discs that were choppy or wouldn't play. I inspected them physically and then scanned them with some sort of Nero application and it showed much WORSE than that scan of RedRob's. ;)

On inspection one of the discs had "Saturn rings" and therefore went strait to the bin!!! It was drive related. I just haven't replaced it yet. lol. Some POS at work. :p

Well, I pushed the 'BUY' button. It's replacing my Lite-On LH-20A1H in an external enclosure as the f/w on the liteon isn't being updated. The LH-20A1H is replacing my Benq DW1655 as a scanner in a desktop as I think the Benq is starting to lose it's marbles as a scanner.

I also picked up an external 1T usb/eSATA Fantom drive for $119 with a $20 MIR. Will come in handy with the WD TV I picked up a couple of weeks ago.

    @ O-man,

Only 3 burners? You need to hang around Greensman more, your count will go up. :p

This will make 11 for me. :D

let me rephrase. I have 3 optical drives that im willing to use AS burners. I have 6 opti's total. :D Though only 4 fit in this case. I suppose thats plenty. I also suppose if I ever need more, I could go with an external enclosure. I REALLY gotta concentrate on a new PSU! Sorry OT.

Im by no means a genius when it comes to building computers. I have tackled and seen my share of problems though. And most components for me are like 1+1. My next PSU im basically gonna aim at future proof. Atleast 4 12v rails, Because I LOVE running multi drives. And a powerful GPU will be appealing before too long. But... back to topic huh.
This is a Verbatim dvd+r (Taiwan). If you have an officemax near you... GET THERE. They have a few deals on media going on through saturday. Tdk 100pk cds 9.99, tdk 100pk dvdr 17.99, verbatim dvdr 22.99 Well now... this is a VERY agreeable scan. Other than the high pi e spike at the start, AWESOME. Expecially the average PI E.
They're not my TY premiums but they're highly respectable. OK... now im seeing the PIF spike, errgh! Wonder if I shoulda got the tdks now. Ehhh... long as its playable right? mmm didnt realize I was scanning at 8x. Just installed this version of nero. I guess 8x is default.

Lol. I discovered a bit/flake of something on the shield. I really gotta clean this room, :( I blow my discs off all the time. I guess it picked it up on route, A whole arms length away. The flake was in the exact area of the mentioned PIF spike.
