any difference in pal/ntsc to mpg or avi?

Have a pal version of a movie that I want to convert to vcd/mpg1. My tv is NTSC, would I need to convert the dvd to ntsc then to vcd or can I just convert straight to vcd/mpg1? Would their be any difference in a avi or vcd from pal or ntsc?

its not the TV that matters its the DVD player, so as long as your DVD player supports playing back the pal format your ok if not you will have to convert to ntsc

The dvd plays pal but with flicker. What I need to know is their such a thing as pal/vcd and ntsc/vcd. If not, then I shouldnt need to convert to ntsc prior to converting the dvd to vcd...

AVI, MPEG from a PAL source is 25 FPS.

NTSC MPEG1 and 2 is 29.97 FPS.

The conversion software should be set to suit your video standard - else if set 'Automatic' it outputs the same as the input.
