Are they the same? I just got a DL burner and new to this. How do I backup a DVD on a dl disk without any compression? Looked thru the guides but DVD 9 and DL disks confuse me. All I have is Nero, AnyDVD, DVDShrink, DVDDecrypter, and CloneDVD. Thanx dudes. Sorry, please no flaming.

To add a little to IHoe's answer , there are dvd+r and dvd-r (dvd-9)
The dvd+r is the more useful for video and as the stand alone players cannot play the second layer on the dvd-r discs, whereas when booktpyed/bittyped, the stand alone seem to play the dvd+r without problems. DVD-r cannot be booktyped. Hope this helps
BTW, the best burning engine for dvd-9's is Imgburn, free from
www.imgburn.com get it if you are going to burn dvd-9

Well said indeed!
Also if you're burning DL discs...stick with Verbatim's. They're too expensive to make coasters 'cuz you wanted to save 4 cents a disc! So make sure you're using the good stuff.
