Hello,

I've used DVD Shrink to rip my DVDs (commercial movies) to my computer's external hard drive.

Later on this year, I hope to buy a video recorder with a built-in hard drive so that my DVDs can be transferred to it as a back-up.

As I haven't had any experience with hard-drive video recorders, would anyone know how I can transfer the DVD Shrink movies on my external PC hard drive to the hard-drive video recorder and, once there, how do I get the video recorder to play back those movies?

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

That's something you'll have to find out if the recorder you wish to purchase can do. Try searching different brands. Some sites will have the owners manual for download.
