can fat ps2 boot hdd without disk?

Can a fat playstation 2 boot a hard drive without a disk such as hdloader in the disk drive? could an exploit be loaded onto a memory card to do that? If there are any exploits, I would love to know about it. Thanks.

the only way to boot without a disc is to have a modchip with flash memory on it.

any other methods must have a disc in the tray.

No need for flash memory-equipped modchip, any will be fine as long as it has DEV1 boot aka memory card boot.

But there's Memor32 and memoryplus special memory cards that can boot independently. Look for memor32 forum or Google for memory plus.
