I would like to play my games at 1080p but my TV only does 1080i.

This adapter says it converts DVI to component but it also happens to be the right male/female parts to hook the component out from my xbox into my better-than-1080p monitor. Question is... will it actually do anything? http://www.abacus24-7.com/DVI-I-Male-to-...nt-Adapter-.htm

I have a Xbox Core so component and VGA are my only outputs :( (I read that VGA only goes up to 1080i and also analog->digital conversion results in a poorer pic quality)

Damn that reminds me... this is an analog to digital conversion (if it even works) so the picture won't be as good as it should be right?

An adapter will do nothing more then let you hook things up via a different input. It will do nothing at all to upscale or give you a higher resolution.

this is similar and can also hook through some graphics cards in your PC

or you can spend some $$$ and get a converter

Personallly, your resolution should be fine with a standard component output (using a cheap adapter), the picture should look pretty nice.

Unless you are a complete tech-head, you probably would not even notice the difference between component cables at 1080i and at 1080P. Heck, the difference between component cables and HDMI is not even so much that it would really knock your socks off.

here is a very good article you can read:

Well technically I shouldn't need to "upscale" my resolution because if the xbox 30 is set to 1080p then it will hit my monitor at 1900X1080 right? My native resolution is 1900X1200 so that would give me black bars at the top and bottom of my screen I think.

The unsettling part is, both the first adapter you linked as well as the identical one that I linked in the OP both say "convert DVI to component" in their description, but conspicuously left out whether it goes in the reverse direction as well. =\

So, to answer my original question: Will this adapter actually do what I want it to?

If i had to take i wild guess i would say no, they will not do component to DVI

After fully reading through everything it seems that these are meant to take a PC or monitor with DVI and let you hook it to a TV or screen that has component inputs.

Another thing to note about the adapter you posted is this :
"Note: This adapter only work with the following ATI Video Cards. Compatible video cards include: ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500, 8500DV, RADEON 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700 & 9800 series of video cards."

In fact pretty much every converter i can find is DVI to component and not the other way around. You may be able to fine a signal converter but most of the time you would pay $250 or more for them. For that you could just get a monitor that had VGA or Component inputs and use that with the 360 instead.

heh not really, this 24" monitor cost me 500 bucks... i think for a 170$ converter box that you linked its not really worth it tho I'll probably just stick to using my 1080i 60" tv.

Can anyone confirm Steimy's hypothesis?

you may just want to buy the 360 VGA cable and get a VGA to DVI adapter which is easy to find. Or even better a converter box so you can take the VGA analog signal and convert it to the DVI digital signal so you get better resolution on your monitor.

VGA: only 1080i
Converter: too expensive

Does anyone know if that 10$ dvi/component adapter will turn 1080p component into 1080p DVI?

Under the "DVI-I and DVI-D" heading, it sounds like any adapter that can convert component to DVI would also be able to do it vice versa.

Can anyone confirm this?

sigh... im just gonna buy a new one and swap it out, return it to wal-mart. Not worth the risk buying that adapter when it may not work.
