I successfully made a copy of a DVD about two weeks ago.. but now I continue to get a "read error"... it continues to "retry" over 10 times before aborting... do you have ANY suggestions?

could you give the full details of exactly what you are doing in addition to the programs you are using. It would help alot.

If it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck!

What are you trying to copy?
The disc you burned or a different DVD?

OK, for the details:
I have DVD Decrypter, as well as DVDFab Decrypter. The program I was getting the error message on was the DVD Decrypter. Next, I tried DVDFab. The first time I used it, it appeared to work... so I copied the files onto a DVD. The DVD started to play, but it was very glitchy... not viewable. The next time I tried to Decrypt (started completely over using DVDFab) I got this error message:
VTS_02_0IF0 contains bogus data and can't be repaired. Hmmmm.... Interesting.... The DVD the same exact one I copied about two weeks ago, with no problems.... Ideas????

Dvdfab needs the help of fixvts. Found here

http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_...ools/fixvts.cfm

Also what brand of discs are you using ? Poor media can cause bad problems. I prefer Taiyo Yudens or $onys. Burn discs at only 1/2 of rated speed, no more.

More help

Post back if any more probs and with results (all good I hope)

LisaDiane forget dvd decrypter if you're backing up newer movies

Better Process

dvdfab decrypter to rip
dvd shrink to transcode (you may need fixvts to clean the file further if dvd shrink can't transcode it after using dvdfab decrypter) but in most cases you will not need fixvts
then imgburn to burn to a blank DVD

Important use good blank media like Taiyo Yuden (which pretty much you can only get online) Verbatim you can get at Best Buys etc. or Sony it pretty good media also and keep your burn speed at 6x to 8x max!

Is the disc you are ripping an original dvd or a backup dvd?

Make sure you clean that disc. Fingerprints, dirt, smudges, and scratches will cause read errors.

What was playing that dvd? PC or Stand alone player on the TV?

Make sure you test it out on the PC and use the drive that burned,to do the playing.
