Ok a friend of mine gave me his cpu to fix it. Ive had it forever and been slacking. Anywho i open it up and noticed the black bridge isnt connected. I look farther into it and i see that the 2 hooks so to speak that snap into place on the motherboard(the thing that basically holds it down) one has come off, thats the reason the bridge came off.

    what do i do now?
the bridge wont stay down, and im not sure exactly what the thing is called that holds it down. The silver snap thing is still connected to the bridge, but the thing it slides under to secure, one side has come off

Or is it time for a new motherboard you guys think?

hes running a dell from about 5 years ago?

Well if something on the CPU/motherboard broke off, and considering it is a 5 year old Dell; I would just tell your friend it is time to move on and get a new system.

hi that thing your are taking about is where the heatsink fits if i am right. you might beable to get a new one off ebay or somthing like that.
i have had the same problem before on a asrock motherboard i just got the new plastic thing off a diffrent board. the one you need will be socket 478 or LGA775.
