Running Xp. Can't run scandisk in XP and chkdsk will only sort out the files. The problem is that on a reboot it goes to the blue screen to scan for constancy and then don't go past 0%. When I use utility in normal or safemode I get So I need not just to check the file structure but to do a surface scan and fix. So is there a program that uses (and not utilizes xp's) it's own scanner and fixer program? Freeware will be better.
have you tried using the windows installation cd, and then typing chckdsk c:/f from the dos screen. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q315265
No luck. Even did a system boot diskette and tried. Just keeps throwing errors about not being able to unlock. So I'm still looking for an alternative as it's driving me crackers.
