You will need a capture card ( I think they are called FM tuner or something ) or something like Dazzle - a program you can research - hardware and software through your USB port from VCR. Then convert whatever that puts on your hard drive. I edit with Nero and burn back to hard drive then run it through DVD Shrink to DVD.

3 choices really... you can look at some form of capture via a usb device into your pc.

Recording it with a dvd recorder and a macrovision removal box.. or my method which is to use a pair of 27 year old vhs machines to copy the tape first stripping the protection.. then recording it on to a dvd using a standard cheapo dvd recorder. There are 4 or 5 different forms of tape protection.. but the really old machines ignore all.. it was pointless, just like protecting dvd's is.

Thanks folks, great stuff! Anyone know which capture cards work with the stabilizer in the above response, and how much they are--I assume the capture card would go in between the stabilizer and my computer?

The card I use is a PixelView that I bought on newegg about 4 years ago - it fits on the motherboard - pc slot - paid around $25.00. Buy a newer one that uses USB and if you have a lot of VHS stuff plan on spending 75 to a hundred bucks. I still use the converted file to run througn DVD Shrink. We have to stay on subject here.
