Hi all, i've got this problem. Everytime i try to run the disk defragmenter, it simply returns this error: Unable to start the "Disk Defragmenter". I tried installing other defragmentation applications (Diskeeper), and i'm returned the same error. What can this be?

You generally need 15% of your hard drive space free in order to run Defragmenter

Still if i didn't have 15% space, the disk defragmenter would run anyway. I have about 75% of free disk space and it simply doesn´t work.

most likley you have some programs that are running in the backround, and you need to turn off all programs that are running that are not vital to the operating system, one is the screen saver turn it off, there is a great little program called enditall2 and it will make it so much easer to defrag your drive, good luck

    Try in safe mode.

You might also try using JKDefrag; it does wonders.

When I first got into non-proprietary pc's, the shop that built me one actally had to replace the chip when I had this problem, but for me it was get about 50% of the way through then BSOD (can't remember the error code)
