Hi I started getting the 'unreadable disc' error about two days ago and tried a DVD lense cleaner and then the 'rubber band mod' and it seems to have fixed the problem (touch wood) but while doing the rubber band mod I noticed something disturbing.

When I'd taken the drive apart I noticed what I first thought was oil but on closer inspection it looks like melted black plastic covering part of the PCB and chips inside the DVD drive, this is MY third 360 and I've flashed about 6 other 360's for friends/family and have done the rubber band mod on some of them and I've never noticed this before. But what I dont understand is where its come from because nothing around the PCB looks melted or out of place.

Has anybody else got this? Is it normal? Please see below for pictures.

Cheers bremner

It looks like it's the epoxy that is suppose to protect the chip from being hacked.

why do you do the rubber band mod? It's obsolete. If you get unreadable disc error after flashing, it's either your media, burner, image...

It was a last resort as I'd ran out of ideas, I ruled out the burner as I use a few different burners, I ruled out the media as I've always used verbs and never had a problem and the flash had been working fine for 6+ months but I did reflash just incase, that didnt work so I did the rubber band mod as I'd done before and it's working.

Thanks for the reply maybe it was a stupid question but I'd never noticed this before and it looked wrong
