Noting their increasing popularity in the market and the lack of a proper forum here on aD, I'd like to request a 'DVD Combo Recorder' forum, there are many threads already dealing with these machines but none are in the right place due to a lack of a place for them togo. These machines have both a DVD and VCR recording feature, being so there is no approprite section for them at the current time. It can be easily placed with in the 'Home Theater' section. I've seen multiple threads in upto 4 different forums on the same machine. So in the long run this would simplify things in the time to come.

Thank you for your time and hopefully a future solution.

Thanks dRD and Tim for relocating the "Magnavox MWR20V6" thread finally allowing it to be easily located from the main forum index!

I didn't know that people still buy DVD-VCR combos, as they are extremely hard to find here in Finland :-) But hey, if there's demand, sure.

Thanks dRD... You'd be surprized, they've become a big thing out in the US partly due to being able to buy one for $130 at Wal-Mart. I use mine to 'TiVo' shows for my brother so he can get to bed for school in the morning...

Do you think you can move this thread in to there or should I just report it and have it moved that way? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/400006

I can move the thread, but for other threads you think should belong there, just report them and mods will do their jobs :-)

Will do dRD... Thanks for everything, quick observation in all humor and good sense... Being that you are the most powerful person on aD, I shall not throw stones in a glass house.

As I'm probably the only one EVER stupid enough to have mentioned it. I personally don't care, but hey if I got yelled at for it, it should apply to everyone. But like I said its your site and you can do with it as you please. You have a great site and hope to be around here for many years to come...

yah walmart sells the dvd vcr combo units, with all the people that i know, and i know a few thousand no one has bought one, also it is cheeper to buy one each a single dvd player they are like 25 dollars, because most people have a vcr anyway, the bad thing about having a combo unit is if one part of the unit fails you have to take the whole unit in, and you will not have anything to watch eather your dvd or your vcr, also walmart is phaseing out the combo units, so i guess that you got some responce to your request for this problem are you still staying here at afterdawn or are you going to take your ball and go home? it is like this good things come to people who wait!

I would also like to mention that we typically shut down forum rooms if they don't gather significant amount of activity in certain period (say, 100 new threads each month and couple of thousand posts per month). And I made an exception even when opening this forum room (we typically don't open new rooms unless there are several thousand existing threads hangin in other forum rooms that could be moved to new area), simply due the fact that it was quite specific area that didn't fit comfortably to existing areas.

So, in future, no requests like "I want to have a forum room for pink-colored internal HDD drives", etc unless you can show 2,000+ existing threads for that particular area :-)

Did and done creaky... Lemme guess i got your soul too... lol.

@rdmercer1, yes i know thousands of people around that don't have them either, but it was the fact that they are a seperate and cohesive unit that had no home on here... Most people are buying the recorder combo's not the player combos, so they can transfer tapes to a dvd or record a show to a dvd. and yes i believe Mike is intending on staying...

@creaky, i don't think he meant his my.afterdawn.com profile. he was referring to the posts he has created. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/400006

@dRD, thank you for bending the rules here. like you said it was a specific area that didn't fit into others. I'll keep a look out for threads that belong in there, i've been busy so i haven't hit my aD quota as of late...

edit for spelling...

Yup... these devices only exist in the pre-owned section now. They are extinct in normal high street retailers,. Consigned to the dustbin of history along with the vcr, ps1, gamecube and vinyl records.

What is there to say about them anyway? They will either record a dvd onto vhs or they won't depending on whether they recognise copy protection or not...

Can we have a commodore64 section please.. or I'm going to leave in a sulk.. check my posts and see how useful I have been!! /sarcasm

Exactly what I was thinking. As if his life depended on the DVD combo recorder forum. It's nice to have hobbies and to help out, but to get this emotional about it?

Auslander and Goodswipe. Nice meeting you both! So you're aware, I take only those individuals worthy of my time and effort extremely seriously. There's no shortage of those who aren't both on this forum and elsewhere. The internet has absolutely nothing to do with it. Forums are just one of many such mediums allowing those with similar interests to connect with one another and exchange information.

I further take my writing and it's clarity, conciseness and accuracy profoundly seriously. When done well, it makes the process of obtaining information a pleasurable experience, where the reader comes away with more than just what they expected or needed. These are the greatest reasons why they consistently seek-out and return to those sources which provide it.

Thanks for taking the time to address me personally. I'm always interested in reading differing viewpoints or comments from anyone willing to make the effort of providing them. There's always something valuable to be gained from any positive input they may contain assuming there is any.
