What speed rate is the
Benq Media?
Benq has 2 manufacturers of their media in the 8x speed. Daxon in the +8x which I'd avoid like the plague. Sony08D1 for the -8x and not too shabby. I'm not sure who makes their 4x and 16x.
What's the brand name,model #,and current
firmware version of your
dvd-rw drive?
Post back that info and that'll help.
It's not easy recommending which brand of media is the best.Taiyo Yuden is one of the best. Then verbatim. Other brands like
HP,
Philips,Memorex,Maxell,etc-you have to be cautious of them because of their outsourcing to low quality manufacturers.
All dvd drives regardless if
Dvd-rw,
Dvd-rom,game consoles, and stand alone players, can have compatability issues when it comes to reading dvd backups in the plus or dash formats. Backups are harder, especially for the picky players.
There's a lot of PS2's out there that are picky. When you get any of the following errors: No Disc,Dirty Disc,Wrong region,Wrong format,or illegal disc-then there's something about the backup that the reading drive doesn't like.
Things that a picky player can have issues with:
1) Format- switch to opposite format if using quality media. If your
dvd-rw drive has
bitsetting capability to
booktype, definitely booktype the plus format media to dvd-rom for the highest compatable backups. If no booktyping capable drive, then the dash format would be superior.
You'll basically have to find the correct format that suits all your drive's needs. The dash doesn't work for you,so You'll have to try some plus format and see how it performs on all your drives.
2) Use quality media- Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim. All blank media has
MID codes. It'll prevent a lot of issues now,and later on down the road.Burn the media half the rated speed.
3) Quality of dvd-rw drive: Not all burners are alike. There's the booktypers like
plextor, benqs. There's the non booktypers like
Pioneer,a lot of
NEC. Then there's some purely crap drives out there like HP. Some of these drives put out low compatable backups. Sometimes these drives need firmware updates to properly tell that drive how to burn your specific media.
4) Burn program: The picky players can tell a difference between burn engines. Try another if all the above fails.
5) Dirty laser lens-in the drive that has playback issues when all culprits are ruled out: Clean the lens with alcohol/swab.If using a hard disc cleaner, make sure it's the last resort.
