how do I OC a intel core duo e4300, I have a dell dimension9200.
4GB DDR2 ram
cpu is 1.8 Ghz

you cannot overclock a dell machine or any other oem built machine.

i have seen ome people that were able to OC this by at least 400 mhz, I know its not much but that is all I need.

Dell locks the bios so it is imposable to overclock. if you want more performance you will need to buy a new cpu or build your own computer that is capable of overclocking.

software overclock is not recommended. can be unstable, and prebuilt computers are not designed for overclocking.

he was able to do it because he had a special chip in his. if you want to try it go ahead. but it most likely wont work for you because not every 9200 will have the same motherboard. If it does work the system probably wont be stable because of the low quality parts.. i don't recommend trying it because you could mess it up and its not really worth it. is there a reason that you want to overclock, playing games?

yes but it is not 100% neccicary obviously heh, I was told if i runthis new game, age of conan, it would be bottleecking the graphics card, geforce 8800 gt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127329R . So that is why i wanted to get it to just 200 mhz faster. Thanks for explaining it all. Is there anyhting i can do u can think of?

the best way you can oc that that system is to do the pin (its not pins but...you will need to use metalic ink) mod on the cpu and it will oc it to 2.4ghz. the only downside to this is it might not work if it doesn't get enought voltage from the mobo.

yes your cpu will be holding that gpu back, even 2.4ghz will bottlenrck it a bit.

So is there an alternative to using a conductive ink pen, i dont have one at the moment.

sorry one more question. Say I wanted to upgrade my cpu, how would I know what cpu's are compatable with my motherboard? say i wanted a quad core, or one of the newest cpu's out there.

check with dell, tbh i would upgrade your mobo before anything else m8 as dell use the cheapest mobos they can.

a new one and you could over clock that chip quite easily.

cpuz will give you the info you need on your ram, aslong as it will work in any new mobo the rest should too.

as for where to get it from, well that depends where you live.

If you want you can try the tape trick, it is said to work with other processors, not just the Q6600.

Electrical tape. You are basically blocking off that one pin.

If it doesn't work you can:
1. Just remove the tape and revert the processor to normal
2. Use your Dell Warranty :) (Don't tell them anything about the tape on the processor and overclocking)
