In a all out gun battle, the cover system is sluggish and stupid. It's slow, seems to stick on wrong side and plain a pain in the ass. Also the auto aim would not budge on to someone else no matter how hard i shift the stick to tell it to. Also it randomly locks on an enemy on the other side even though i had my cross hair on a nearby enemy.

COver system is inefficient.

GTA IV sucks. I don't know what the big deal is about it. I played it for about 10 minutes and that was it. Besides the stupid sluggish, clunky controls just like any other GTA game, there was no option to invert the horizontal camera axis which for me, made the game totally unplayable. When I play a game and push left on the stick I want the camera to pan right. This makes more sense to me. Not to mention when you go to punch someone and they move quickly around you while you're left standing there with your sluggish controls punching into thin air.

I've seen this time and time again. Racing games that only let you use the triggers for the accelerator. This gives me a major cramp and I like my accelerator and brake to be the A and X buttons not the trigger buttons. Why they spend all that time making a game and won't let you customize the controls more is beyond me. I mean, SURELY somebody along the line said, gee I wish the camera was inverted or I wish I could use the A button for the gas instead of these damn trigger buttons.

I've seen SO many games completely ruined by sloppy or uncustomizable controls. I'll never understand it.

Also in the short time I did play GTA IV I remember being in the hospital and there was a woman sitting in the waiting area. I walked over to her and my character completely clipped into her and we appeared to mesh together. Garbage. Complete garbage.

FYI folks, just because they have hookers, say "fuck" and do other things your mom might not approve of does NOT make it a great game.

GTA IV sucks.

For GTA/Racing games, have you changed the controller configurations from your Xbox profile settings? In the profile settings there are options to change the controls of racing games so that you can use "A" as your accelerate instead of the triggers. You can also change general settings of games such as the "invert x/y - axis". Try these settings and then try to play these games, they may seem better :)

yeah the controls are very clunky. I was just playing Saints Row and man are the controls smooth and flowing. With IV the cover system is crap and the control is almost crap.

In Old GTA games for console, you use the right stick to control camera which also controls the players movement. In IV, they made the right stick so clunky and stupid, you can't even use it to control movement or character, instead all movement is done with left stick which makes you run into walls and shit, especially going down and up stairs. Very stupid. I don't know what R* was thinking.

And why the hell did they put driving mechanics of Forza 2 into the game, the driving is harder than simulation driving games like Forza, WTF is up with that.

Don't even get me started on cover system. I see bad guys they are shooting me, there is a wall to the left, i press cover button, instead of pinning me to the wall, it pins me to a car with by back facing the enemy getting bullets up my ass. This sort of stupid mechanics pisses me off.

Suppose to be such a great game, I still give it respect no matter what. It's one of the best games there is, but the controls and mechanics are so bad. It did no deserve a 10 from IGN.

Yah the cover system is so annoying and everytime I try to switch targets when locked on to a person it wont do it.I have to turn the R sitck to the right like 15 times until so.And every time I take cover sometimes it takes cover behind the wrong wall on 90 degree walls. And switching out of cover mode is a pain in the A$$....The storylines pretty good though.Ive done 62 missions and it says i only have 42% progress.I guess it means all the side missions.Anyways,BurningAs,Im experiencing the same stupid issues in gameplay.

I had no issues with the auto aim. To switch targets just let go of the left trigger and move the reticule over to the guy you want to shoot. It's automatically set up so that if you don't depress all the way you can still freely aim, I'm not saying the way it auto selects is great-but you can very easily lock on to any target you want. I also didn't find the camera to be all that problematic, it was a bit slow but not horrible.

With that said, the driving was god awful. I got used to it after awhile, but it really was horrid. And I often found objects loading long after I entered rooms. Clearly not a 10, but still not the garbage you're making it out to be. The level of detail was much more impressive than any other sandbox style game. Not to mention the character development and outstanding voice acting. The story is cliche but still compelling enough to make you care. In my unprofessional opinion the game should have gotten an 8.5-8.9. Almost 9 worthy, but it had enough problems it doesn't deserve the dignity.

I don't how people have success with the the auto aim, it's horrible. Can't believe R* let it go in such a state. Stupid PS3 must have took all the time for development team...

I would give it a 9.6 if i were IGN, i'm sure they have regrets after the 10.
