I have a Starview PVR and want to be able to convert the *.PVR recorded files into AVI files which I can plan on my computer. Does anyone have any freeware software which is capable of converting .PVR into .AVI files?
Hi Not sure why you would want to have avi files? unless you could explain?. If you intend saving the films/files, why mess about moving files around and converting them, if you have a DVD recorder, connect it up to the Starview PVR with a scart lead and record what you want to a DVD. A decent DVD Recorder for a few £'s from the popular auction site will do fine. jbvid
If I can convert the files into avi or mp4 then they can be used on other devices such as ipod touch, etc. Also, an AVI or MP4 will take up less space than recording things to DVD's which I would not want to mess around with as I would have more dvd disks; computer files can be held on an external hard disk and easy to access to watch on tv. Can you help with my original question?
A program called tv suite will do the trick. I have tried it myself. It opens .pvr files see link below. http://www.videoredo.com/en/ProductTVS.htm
Anyone wanting to convert pvr files to avi, mpg, dvd or the likes a bit of a round about way but here it is anyway. Install projectx from link below. After install File - Add - Navigate to folder with pvr file. Select prepare button (Centre left of screen) Highlight m2p format & close window) Select '+' button & set output dir(bottom centre) Select Quick Start button Now Convert m2p to avi, mpeg, dvd or whatever using any freeware software... Google and download Satsuki Yatoshi Media Player, it plays the Starview PVR recordings (and most other things) brilliantly on PC just as they come. I then use a great little app called 3GP Converter which will give you a much smaller file which plays on PSP / IPOD / MP4 PLAYERS while still looking decent on my 42" plasma when converted to a 29fps setting.
