My disc drive wont open for some reason. I cannot figure out where to begin with the problem. When I click the eject button the green LED on the drive blinks a few times and does nothing. When I use a paper clip to open the drive it opens fine but upon closing it again its stuck again and does not read the cd i put into it anyway. hl-dt-st cdrw/dvd gcc4244 is the name of the drive under device manager. The laptop it is on is a Dell Inspiron 1300
Well known junk drive brand. Probably failed. Try uninstalling it using device manager then rebooting. If that doesn't change the situation replacement is the only option.
when drives dont open then windows may have gone haywire on the drive and locked it up!!! but its most likely the tracks or the rubber band but if after a driver reinstallation (firmware update isn't involved and doesn't solve such issues)nothing changes then the drive maybe off its tracks.....at that point there no point in trying to fix it, it'll come off again and is easily replaced with a high quality drive for only 30$ or so best of luck! (and remember just because the PC is dell doesn't mean it needs a dell model drive replacement, get a lite-on plextor or even Hitachi and sony!) -tripplite
