Hi all I have ripped a "friends DVD" and for helping all my friends who are in different parts of world speaking different languages, I ripped the dvd with external subtitles. I have encoded the option to play audio in any of the 3 languages available. As there is a problem in AutoGK that I cannot rip the individual chapter of the DVD so when i converted VTS_01 ifo to avi, which had 3 chapters I got a single AVI file having 3 episodes with 3 audio tracks and alongwith it i had an IDX file and a SUB file. this sub file allows me to run subtitles in any of 8 languages i.e. eng, spanish, arabic, italian etc and any of 3 audio track. I want to upload the "DVD rip of friends" on net. But i want to convert the "3 episodes single file of 700 MB with multiple subtitles and Audio track" to 3 individual files of each episode with having option of 3 audio tracks and 8 subtitles options in each one of them. Can anyone tell me a software that breaks 700 MB AVI file into 3 individual files of each episode having option of all audio tracks any help w.r.t breaking IDX and SUB file (subtitles) into 3 IDX and SUB files for each episode of friends shall also be welcomed. If you load the DVD files from the VIDEO_TS folder in 'DVD Shrink', you will see the audio and subtitle streams on the right side of the window. Select 'Re-author'. If your disk has only one title containing the episodes, it will be shown as 'Title 1' on the right panel. Drag title 1 from right to left, right click on it and select 'Set Start/End Frames' , you can use the sliders to choose your episode, then click 'ok'. Click 'Backup' and in 'Backup Target' elect to save the files to a new folder on the hard disk (the audio and subs that were initially checked, will be included). You can open this folder .ifo file in AGK. My question is how do you view the subtitles (the idx and sub files created by AGK) with a media player;I can choose the subtitle in the player, but even 'though the avi, sub and idx are all in the same folder (with the same name) the subtitles don't show up.
@ attar, What player do you use? I have used VLC and WMP with sub/idx and they show just fine. I tried MPC and with the default settings for some reason the subtitles were displayed behind the black border, so I chose to "override the placement"
Thanks a lot buddy. your DVD shrink suggestopm has helped me a lot and about subtitles I put the idx and sub file in same folder where avi is. i use vlc player or BSplayer. it works. and the latest vlc playes has everything, aspect ratio adjustment etc i have selected the individual titles. now i will see if it works with autogk thanks again buddy.
@cyprusrom @narwal Thank you for your responses. I have the AVI, idx and sub files playing together now. I found a problem after re-authoring a movie title with DVD shrink and saving it as a new title - but only if using AGK and saving external subs. If I take the new files from DVD shrink and burn a DVD, there is no problem, but running AGK and converting to an AVI and saving external subs, the idx file still carries the time stamp of the original title. An example would be that in the original title the sub appears five minutes into the movie. If I re-author the title and that sub should now be at the beginning of the clip - the time stamp still indicates five minutes - so the sub doesn't appear at the correct time when played with the AVI. So far, only way to get the correct times is to demux the re-authored DVD clip with VOBEdit to get a .sup file, then Subtitle Creator to convert the .sup to an idx and sub file. This is unsatisfactory as AGK normally saves one small idx file for multiple subtitles and one larger .rar file containing the .sub files.
i am not sure i quite understand your problem, but i can tell you what i did. i had friends dvd. a total of 4 files of more than 1 gb each, amounting to 4.35 GB had 6 episodes. i did what you told about re-author. I found 6 files with individual ifo. now in autogk i used external subs, selected all subtitles and all audio tracks. it is running fine for me. btw, otherwise i use dvd decrypter first then the files stored on my hard disk as converted to avi with autogk with external subtitles. another option i use is no subtitles while using autogk. i then use subrip to extract subtitles. editing the subtitles, its timestamps, framerate etc is also very easy in subrip. the only problem in subrip (for me ) is to make a single file having all subtitles in it. if u can give dvd decrypter + autogk with no subtitles + subrip a shot, do come back to me with the results. Selecting a complete title using 'Re-author' and processing it with external subtitles in AGK was not a problem. It was when the title was further split (using start and end frames in DVD shrink) and the result saved as a new DVD. When those files went through AGK (and electing external subs) the idx file still had the timestamps of the original (unsplit) subs. The resultant AVI, while the subtitle track could be selected in VLC, had the wrong sub timing - I could use Subresync on the idx to reset to the new, correct, time - but it was only approximate, as I was using the time displayed on the playback and hoping that it was close enough to the lip movement.
