I have this x3 ce chip that I have installed and have the bank set to on, on , off, off, off ....but whenever I turn it on, the the light is still red. I've also tried de-soldering and re-soldering the d0 and still no luck. Is it still possible for me to flash the chip other than http even with the light being red? And can I still load any of the games I have on my pc to it while I'm trying to get it to turn blue? I know that may sound strange but I'm really trying to figure something out to get my box working..Any help will be greatly appreciated...

First off, Emails are not allowed. Please remove. Secondly, If you remove the chip does it work normally?

I appologize for the email... I wasn't aware of that..secondly, yes It does work normally when I disconnect the chip. I can play my games regularly and all. I thought that all my connections were pretty solid. I've even de-soldered and resoldered my D0,etc.. Is there any way I can flash the chip some other way?

I suggest that you just softmod since the system works fine without the chip. Softmodding has the same if not more advantages over chips. Post back if you want details on what softmodding can do.

How do you tell which version XBox you have? I have the Halo Edition.

    actually that's shite.. but anyways..

To find out version open it up.. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/determine_version_of_xbox.htm

It's either a 1.3 or a 1.6a (uk releases) as they were the halo versions here.. Whatever you do don't mess with the black jewel.. they are worth more than the rest of it.

What advantages do chips have over softmods?
BTW, what black jewel? Is that worth a lot on the Halo Edition Consoles?

    main advantages of a chip..

boot direct to linux for use as a nas or tv based pc.. hdd can be thrown away with no worries and replaced with one of any size or left unlocked unless you want to use the M$ dash... alternative bios boots for homebrew testing, abilty to dump a broken dvd drive and fit a spare hdd to boot an alternative OS.. error 16/21 and other softmod nightmares don't exist as it will always boot an installer disk.. etc etc.. Softmods are useful on 1.6 consoles as the soldering can be difficult. I usually do it first to get the eeprom anyways just in case, then fit a custom built tsop as chips are becoming hard to source. the cheapmod returns.

The black jewels alone fetch about £25 on fleabay uk.. I can buy a complete console working for £20 retail.

Well i think we got it under control i'm walkin deisel thru it in Y im. His friend/brother has a hard modded xbox so he can just ftp the save to the modded box then throw the save to a memory card from the ms dash (no need to make a thumb drive card or buy action replay).

I didn't know those jewels were worth so much. I ordered 3 jewels from www.gameconsoleskins.com but it looks like they're out of business but still taking everyones money. Paypal should refund my money on june 8th.

So that's some good advice, if you have a special edition xbox.... don't do this.

Mineral spirits without acetone is too strong for that plastic.

funny because until I read this post I didn't know that there was a difference in the Jewels on the original and Halo Xbox.
If I was to sell my xbox say for the Halo Edition, XBMC Dash and 200GB hard drive with 1 Halo controller, how much do you think I could make from it? The only 2 hardware mods inside are a faster IDE cable and a HDD LED. I can post pics if you want, it looks really nice.
