I noticed that some people don’t know how to use UMDGEN. So, I decided to make a guide about this. I wish this helps people in Afterdawn.

What is UMDGEN?
UMDGEN is a tool to create ISO games. I found it very useful, and I wish you will too. UMDGEN can also rebuild ISO. So, if u made a backup or downloaded a game and it gives you a folder named PSP_GAME and UMD_DATA.BIN. Then u need to rebuild ur ISO.

Requirements
Windows OS (Works for Vista)
UMDGEN

How to Rebuild an ISO - Do this if you have a PSP_Game folder and a Bin file
1. Open up UMDGEN and click the New button
2. Go to the big blank space and click the right mouse button. Then go to add and “Existing Folder” and then “Existing File”. Add the PSP_Game folder and the Bin file. Title is optional.
3. After that is done. Click the Save button to either ISO,CSO, or DAX.

Here is a IMAGE

How to Extract an ISO
1. Open ur game image and click Extract Image. Select the Output and it will extract it for you.

How to Applying Patches on ISO
1. Download a PPF patch for the PSP game which are usually translators for the game. Click the “Apply PPF” and browse for your PPF and click OK
2. Once after that is done, click save and save in a format.

Deleting Dummy Files (What are Dummy Files)

INTRO : Dummy Files are large file(s) that added to an image. It allows the disc (UMD) to be read easier, because it pushes all the other data towards the outer edge of the disc. So, now here is the question. Do you need dummy files? No, u don’t, since it’s a ISO on the memory stick, not on UMD.

1. Open your game with UMDGEN. If u have a CSO, skip this step and go to step 2. If it is an ISO then click the “Dummy Search” button. Let it scan. Then it would tell you which dummies are resized.
2. If UMDGEN didn’t work the way you wanted. Look for a BIN file that takes a lot of memory. Delete that and try the game. Make sure to keep a backup. To delete updates on the game (not needed) go to PSP_GAME, SYSDIR, UPDATE. Delete the three files in there. Done

How to Use Ripkits

Ripkits are apps that makes your game smaller. Here is a good website for ripkits. SITE.

To install read the readme.txt in the archieve. Ripkits are all different.

How to Relink Files

When you are trying to delete files such as movies, music ...etc. Your game can be messed up and crash while playing. Ask yourself this question "Will the game attempt to access this file at any point during gameplay?". If the answer is no, then it is okay to delete the files. Things that you can delete are the Dummy Files, Updates and Other Languages Files and folders. To make your game smaller and delete uneeded files, u need to use the relink. Relink is like a forwarding one file to an another file.

1. Now I have exactly no clue, what game you have and what game you are trying. But, here is the general steps. Find a file ( usually a movie or music) that needs relinking and the file that is goin to be relinked.

2. Right click the file you want to use as the relinked file (this is the file you want to keep - all other relinked files will point to this)

3. From the pop-up menu choose - File Relinker -> Use Selected File As Source.

4. Now to relink all the unwanted files to the source file. Select a file you want to be relinked (you can select more than one file if desired) and right-click. From the pop-up menu choose - File Relinker -> Relink To.. (the source file path will be here) Now the selected files are relinked to the source file and should be coloured blue. The iso size should have also decreased.

Using the Batch Converter,

The Batch converter is a tool to convert your game to another type. Such as ISO, CSO, and DAX. It is much faster than just opening it up and converting,

1. Open UMDGEN 4 and click the Batch Converter Tool

2. Drag the game you want to convert into the chart thingy

3. Click "Start Batch Conversion"

LBA Checks Thx to svtstang

LBA checks are pretty much hit and miss, I mean that in the sense you don't know if you need to keep file structure intact until you rebuild an iso only to find it will not boot. Keeping lba integrity is very easy, here is how you do it using umdgen.

1.Before screwing with an iso, even something as small as resizing dummy data, go to file list - export. This will create a simple text file detailing proper file location.

2.Edit the iso as you will. Doesn't matter what you do, whether relinking pmf's or simply removing dummy/redundant data, all will be good because you are keeping lba integrity.

3.When you are done editing, go to flile list - import. It will ask if you wish to force the positioning ( I forget the exact wording, been a while). Answer yes, then save the iso (or cso).

There ya are, now you have a rebuilt iso that keeps the lba integrity of an untouched iso. I say do it to all iso's, worst case scenario you wasted an extra minute of your life, best case you dont have to redo the changes do to an lba check being in place.

Not a sticky worthy guide, but great info for people new to the application non the less. A detailed update on relinking as well as lba checks could indeed make it sticky worthy post though. I made a guide about that awhile ago for another site but can't be bothered to find it ^.^

Nice job, look forward to updates.

1. So ... you just want to play MP3 files on the PSP? Just drag that into the Music folder. Videos need to be converted to mp4, then are transfer to the VIDEO folder. Reformat your Memory Stick via PSP first.

2. This guide is only about UMDGEN. It rebuilds ISO games. What do you want to do ?

Please start a new thread on the Mod and Firmware Section. Then ask the question. This isn't the right thread to post.
