I have used the reauthor tool in DVD Shrink in order to get rid of some unwanted extra materials and the menus did not work. Is this a limitation or did I do something wrong? Thanks all.

That is Shrink in Reauthor. It lets you add tracks at will - THX ad intros, Main Movie, extra feature tracks, etc. one by one - but you do lose your working Menu.

Once you have compressed a DVD with Shrink and the DVD plays but menus do not work, is there any way to recreate menus using the files DVDShrink puts on the Hard Drive before burning?

If you only use Shrink to compress the movie and DON'T click RE-AUTHOR, but go straight to BACKUP button, the menus will work. They only become inactive after RE-AUTHOR. When I want to edit a movie like in shrink but need active menus, I use CloneDVD and AnyDVD. With these programs you can take out the trash and still have the menu work. About $40. each but well worth it.

I had two disks one about 90% and the other 50% full. I wanted too compress the two into one dvd, which shrink did but I lost the menus. I actually had some success by taking the shrunken files, excluding the menus into TMGencDVD as files, and created new simple chapter menus in that application, I now have it all on one disk with chapter menus that let you get around in the DVD. Not as elegant as the original but functional.

Ok for what you were trying to do. I thought you were talking about a straight movie backup with working menus. Your doing the right thing then.
