Ip problems

    Hello Im having problems with my Ip.. The internet says it is 69.xxx.xxx.xx

    but when I go to command in windows it says 192.168.1.104 (preferred)

    I would seriously not display your IP in a public forum!

    But in regards to your question, 69.xxx.xxx.xx is what your ISP assigns you and 192.xxx.x.xxx is what your router, wirless router DHCP gives you.

    Just an FYI, you can not change the IP that your ISP gives you.

    BTW, what are you trying to do? or are you just curious?

    what im asking I guess.... is why the command prompt says something different than it is... it makes it difficult to set up a static ip...

    Im not following what your saying. You want a static IP to port forward?

    yes but I cant set one becuase windows says that Ip: 69........ doesnt match default gateway: 192.....

    Use the info you see at Command Prompt to set your static address except if the DNS Server and Default Gateway show the same. In that case, you'll have to find them elsewhere. Good guide here: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm Default Gateway is your router and shouldn't match your IP. To port forward,go to Port Forward, find your router, click on it, find your program, click on it and follow the instructions: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

    but if I change it to those settings.... it stops my internet connection

    That will happen if the Default Gateway and DNS Server at Command Prompt are showing the same address and are used to set a static address. Is that the case, if it is, here are a couple you can use, they work fine: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=150520 (in the post or follow link).

    I guess I'd try entering the info again making sure everything was correct and using the Port Forward guide above, other than that, not a clue, never heard of this. Incidentally I see two different addresses at sites online and Command Prompt, too.

    Interesting, my take on that is a little different. If you use a router, any port over 10,000 is fine, otherwise you don't need to. Maybe a static address too if there is a router. Edit: wrong thread.
