trying to update new the box super

    I am trying to update my star view the box super as per the forum but it says can't open serial port last error the system cannot find the file specified please help

    i dont have a ports in device manager. I am running xp on my desktop pc and there is two rs232 ports at the back i think

    i am using the lead supplied with the box sorry if sound a bit clueless but your help would be gladly recieved

    Sorry I had to leave for a bit. You must be using either an old laptop or a standalone PC. You dont have two serial ports you have a VGA and a serial port, unless you have an additional PCI card.

    What firmware are you trying to load?

    Are you sure you have the correct Null Modem cable as it can look like one but it could be a standard RS232 cable which looks identical?

    how can you tell i have just bought the box off ebay and it came with the cable

    You cant unless you have a multimeter and bell out the pins. Where did you get the firmware from?

    can not get on pins can see cable on plug though and it goes yellow orange red brown on one and yellow green brown red on the other

    does cross 2 and 3 if read from the left as your looking at the plug the red and brown cross over

    How did you manage to look at the colour code inside the cable, it is a null modem cable you are looking and not a Cat5 cable?

    by removing the plug at the top it springs out of the surround. I think the problem is my pc the fact i have no ports in system info

    Doesnt sound good when you have a snap on hood, usually they come moulded. When you say you have no Comm port I presume you are looking in device manager.BTW I am presuming you have looked in device manager when you have the cable connected?     yes its a snap on hood and yes if i go to system properties there is no ports drop down box at all
