I usually am strictly a Verbatim DL Printable (95123) buyer when it comes to media for my 360 backups, but I have kept seeing them and reading about them and have to give in. They are the 8X MBI (Moserbaer India) Double Layer 8.5 GB AQUASHIELD DVD+Rs from GenesysDTP. I know some may rip me and others may want to see how they turn out. Just wondering has anyone ever used these disc? I am not strapped for cash at the moment and decided to give them a go.
I just bought them today, but I will post my personal results and pictures of the print quality once they arrive, but as for scans I am a total noob. I am great with computer (working towards my IT degree) but I may need help understanding the scans and what it means once I get them and scan them in Nero Speed. So just be on the look out and again if anyone has used these let me know how they turned out.

Never heard of them. Let's hope they are ok. DL technology is still not as developed as SLs so some of the off-brands have horrible dye and composition.
Scans are scanning for Cylinderical redundancy errors, or read errors caused by writing errors basically. I dont' use Nero, but another program and it just reads the checks every sector of a burnt disc.

Nope, never tried those before...however I've used a brand called WINDATA...located on page 2 of this catalog and they have worked well for me...however I noticed i sometimes had problems when playing the game if it was burned at 2X...so I tried 4X and they've worked well for me. 20 discs at $14.99 is a good deal IMO :-).

Well guys here is the update. I received the disc, but when I try and burn one with IMGBurn I am getting the "power calibration area error". I have not had any problems with my burner except for about a week ago when I was trying to burn a basic data disc (TDK Brand) it was giving me troubles. My burner is a Pioneer 112D with the newest firmware I could find. Is this due to bad media or could it be a burner issue. I have included some pics below to help explain what the error I am getting and it show some info on the disc. I am tempted to return these and continue using my usual verbatim printables. (that are not glossy and more expensive.. sigh).
P.S. This is off the topic a little bit, but I sell data dvds on ebay daily. Total I probably sell around 7-20 dvds a day. Is this really bad for my burner, or should burners be able to handle daily loads like this. Most of the data being burned are wav files and some are 4GB iso files. Just wondering if I should consider two different burners, one for my 360 & dvd movie backups and one for my ebay dvd discs? Any thoughts?

Ok, so I just got a new dvd drive, and they work now! Yah.. Anyways I did my first scan ever, and I do not really know what all this means, but here they are. This is a disc burned at 4X. By the way my new drive is an Optiarc AD-7203S and I flashed it with Larry and Dee's 1.Z2 firmware. Please anyone let me know if this is a good scan, or if I should do something different and if these discs are going to be worth buying more?

the reason you were getting power calibration errors on your old burner was most likely the FW was old. i am interested to see how these play, let us know. and you have to be able to play it at least 4 hours without a skip in my mind for it to be accepted.

That crap media is disagreeable, that's why the pioneer is not burning it. Maybe FW's fault too but that's still bad media never the less. How do I know it's crap. Your scans. Good quality discs have maximum PI errors of about 10 or so, so 20 or so for DL; but yours has 226. Not good man. Scan a verb to see what I mean.
Apparently your DL is RICHOJPN, which isn't considered bad, but I think I would go Ritek over that.
ANd yes any burner should handle 7-20 burns a day. I put mine through 8-10 on really hot days and it's fine. Sorry you had to go Optiarc way, I hate those burners.

Well I bought the 20 pack of verbatim printables (not glossy though.. another sigh) on Friday from newegg, and they should be here on Monday. Good thing I only bought a 10 pack of these discs, and I owe my buddy 5.. so.. you know which ones hes getting. But I think I am going to put back in my pioneer 112d once I am done with this pack. What is the best firmware at the moment for the 112d to get the best burns for 360 backups? Thanks for you opinion too Burning.

Well I have been playing Bully on one of these discs for the last two days. Last night my girlfriend and I played for about 6 hours of that and others, and today we just got done playing about 6 hours. I have not seen one skip or anything wrong with the media. I am going to keep burning and testing discs for long periods of time. I may even buy more. Once I printed one the disc, OMG.. the print quality on these things are right up there with the Taiyo Yuden DVD-R Watershields.. which I also have a 50 pack of (smiles). But these discs may be worth it to try to some of you that are not strapped for cash. So far so good for me.

Moser-baur are one of the largest manufacturers of disks in the world... most of them crap (philips/tdk/datasafe overprints)
They seem to start out fairly good then go downhill as sales increase. The scans on those don't look particularly great, about the same as a mid range ricoh. (which they code as.. no surprise there, they are probably supposed to be branded ricoh but are rejects)
The 360 is a strange beast, a bit like the first incarnation. I have seen them balk at verbs and play cmc/traxdata just fine. My xbox rule has always been "if it works for you then use it, but don't expect it to work on another machine"
Free open source software = made by end users who want an application to work. The flower of carnage-shura no hana

Umm... I am really confused now. I don't think I can count on scans, or maybe the other way around. Maybe I can't always trust Verbs. Here is a scan of a Verb I play normally. Its a Verbatim DL Printable burned at 4X with a Pioneer 112D. Can anyone explain why the quality score is a 62 for a Verb & a 93 for the MBI? I may begin using Varnull's method.. if it plays in "my" system.. then that is all that matters.
