Is there a way to use the smartripper vobs (rip method = movies so I keep the movie under 4.7gb) and burn to dvd so i can play on desktop. what am i missing? the movie doesn't play on my desktop?

Yes there is, you just need to have DVD authoring software that supports direct VOB import from HDD. One mentioned in our forums is called Prassi, but I assume that there are others as well.
