    Ok question:

Is it a white and blue g3 or a white g3??

If it is a white g3 you need to upgrade your firmware on your g3 you can find the update at www.apple.com and flash your new firmware then make sure that your settings for mac os x are 640x480 for display settings this will make sure the installer runs in safe mode when you boot from it this will then install mac os x tiger and run it back in your old settings of 800 x600 or what ever your settings are.

For some strange reason mac os x tiger doesn't like certain graphics cards and has issues booting them i had a apple g3 tower and it wouldn't boot 10.4 at all untill i updated the firmware and ran the graphics in 640x480 after that i could run my screen in 800x600 without any issues.

Ok if it is a dual usb you need to update your firmware first issue in doing this 9.2 no longer connects to the internet so you need to download the file on windows pc and transfer it to a usb thumb stick and then to you mac to perform a firmware update.

After make sure your display settings are in 640x480 in mac os 9.2 if they are not you will have a heck of a time getting tiger to boot.

then go into startup disk not the mac os x cd/dvd disk this hardly works on the g3 worth jack when inside the startup disk menu select the mac os x install dvd or cd depends on version
    and select restart.

The laptop should reboot and start the installer for mac os x tiger if not you will then need to check your system memory.

tiger requires 256 megs just to run

i tryed downloading a firmware update, but i says its not needed

    changed display settings to 640x480

i insert the install cd and got click on Startup Disc the computer will freeze

i tried it with the OEM tiger Disc and A Backup. they both freeze
the oem discs have alot of scraches though, the computer has a 120GB hdd with 385MB ram

When you say OEM disc, do you mean like, a retail copy of Tiger or a copy that shipped with another mac? If it's not the retail discs, it won't work.

It also requires 9.2.2 not just 9.2 for the install to work.

Once that's up to date, restart holding down the option key for a list of bootable devices or boot holding 'c'. That should do it.

    Good luck!
