Just to let you all know if you didnt already that the Pioneer DVR107 has been releases and it supports +/- 8x. I will be testing it with current 4x DVD+/-R media that states it can write at 8x. i'll update you on my resluts by posting here, though the results will be listed on www.chrismccann.co.uk I will also be testing the new 8x media from the Ritek Corporation in +R format to start with, but then -R as it is available. I will post results on the Pioneer DVR107 for those of you unsure on whether or not to purchase it. Thanks Chris
OMG - I am dying to know if its worth upgrading from a DVR-106 to a DVR-107... Please test it, Please test it... Mayor
Well its great for normal DVD's - it burns most 4x Ritek discs at around 6-7x, however, I am waiting for Conrexx, the Ritek distributors to hopefully send me some 8x DVD+R/ and then -R to test. I'll update you. Its well worth it considering you can get them for around £115
Oriphus, How is the BURN quality? Have you backed up a movie to see if the quality is the same as the 106? Thanks for your time!! Mayor
I didnt use the 106, i used the 105, however, i havent noticed any difference in terms of quality. The discs are spinning fine as well with a regular RPM. So far burns are clean, will update if i notice a problem. I believe someone mentioned that the laser and optics in the DVR107 is identical to the DVR106, so i would assume burn quality will remain common.
lol - fair enough Just to let everyone know that www.digitalpromo.co.uk has it for £97 including VAT now - cheapest in UK. Just remember that this drive has not been officially released in the UK and those drives that you are purchasing are most likely imports from Japan and other such places. this does not mean they will not be of the same quality, as they are probably exactly the same, it basically means that once they are released in UK they are likely to fall in price. Cant see them beating £97 to easily though....
Can you confirm that this is 8x + and - not like the latest MSI or Liteon drives now available which are 8x + and 4x - also do you have any idea of the price?

Well guys, the RiteK...R03 8x media only writes at 4x. Anybody know of any media that does write at 8x ?? RIK
Guys, I just bought this drive and it should arrive by Tuesday. I will be going through extensive testing and provide you with an update! Thanks, Mayor
I was going to pick this drive up at the local PC fair, but nobody out there had the OEM drive,I don't want the higher price of the boxed retail version. It seems that the media isn't easy to find yet(8X minus media) so as I wait patiently hopefully the drive price will fall a bit, bye bye A05/105 hello A07/107!
[bold]Pioneer DVR107[/bold] I just installed the new 8x DVD Burner from Pioneer. Im going to give you a quick review of what I have found: Pros: Very quite drive Very fast burns Same quality as the 106 drive Burn quality is excellent Fast spin up with DVD's (movie or blank) Burned my 4x Princos at around 5x or 6x 1hour & 45min movie took 19+ min to READ AND BURN. Cons: CloneDVD doesnt offer a 6x option with this drive "Pioneer" logo removed from the front (I like logos) Slow spin up with CD's (music or blanks) I will continue to update you all as I learn more. Thanks, Mayor
hi people, i am wanting a dvd burner, and i was wondering which one i should get, at first i was going to get the plextor 708a on ebay but i didnt win the bid, i am still thinking of getting the plextor708a, but now that i have seen this thread i am wondering if i should consider buying a pioneer 107. Please could you help me to whihc dvd burner i should get, or if there is a better one, please tell me thanks
kaushik, Without question, you should get the new Pioneer DVR-107. It costs around $150 and burns +R and -R at 8x. I have an EXTERNAL Plextor at my office and I hate it. When I have tried to backup several movie DVD's, it has failed but I take it home to do the same backup, using the same movie DVD and using the same blank media, yet using my Pioneer Burner and it works PERFECT. Personally I would stay CLEAR of the Plextor... Just my .02 cents... Mayor
The price on the Plextor is a bit higher and the fact that it only burns + media at 8X would make the choice seem almost a no-brainer,but as far as the Quality of Plextor drives ,personally they have always been my favorite drive makers,so I'd have to say that if Plextor could match prices and features of the 107 i would buy Plextor. Pioneer has many different divisions of products from home to office,so I like the idea that Plextor has it's primary focus on PC related products. But ,for the time being I have been completely satisfied with my Pioneer DVR drives (A05,and A06) as have many other forum members, try the Pioneer drives, you won't be disappointed!
I have been using a DVR 107 for about and week and have burned at least 20 +R DVDs. No coasters in the bunch, but have found a problem that I called Pioneer tech support about. The problem is that DVD+Rs (Verbatim, TDK, Memorex) are not compatable with Pansonic players. I have 3 units that usually will play anything. Along with this DVR 107, I have 4 other burners(HP 300i's) that work great and are very compatable. I need to check this out more, but I feel that there is a problem with my unit burning +R DVDs. These DVD+Rs will play on computers and a couple other new cheap DVD destop players that I have tried them on.
Cheez, Oriphus! What an ego. Showing your backside in hot pink panties on your web site. Sorry, mate. Couldn't resist. Good site, tho'.
