My computer powers on and the green led light turns on, the harddrive begins to run etc, but nothing is displayed on the screen. I have literally tried EVERYTHING troubleshooting this problem and cannot figure it out. Could the case be the problem? I think that is the only thing I haven't swapped other than ram sticks. I have tried: switching the CPU, Hard Drive, Power Supply, video card, monitor / cable, and mobo and still nothing has worked. My specs are: xotic x-turbo black 450 watt power supply foxconn 865a01 - pe mobo p4 3.2ghz pc3200 ram 512mb x 2 g 160 serial ata hard drive geforce fx5500 256 and i run xp home edition the computer is 3 years old for what its worth, this problem occurred 2 years ago, I have just recently been trying to fix it. edit, i am giving up on this for now, thanks everyone for the help
No, the screen stays completely blank, but doesn't say that there is no signal. As I stated earlier, I tried switching out those parts to see if they were the problems.
I have not had to fix any display problems yet - but if it was me, I would think the graphics card. Does Mobo have onboard graphics ? How are you trying to get system bios up ?
moved to correct forum as not a windows issue. is the hd led flashing as tho loading? disconnect all cables to drives. try different ram if have available as not on your list of changes.
Usually you will hear (via the speaker) any POST errors. Some clues are; does the keyboard leds flash at startup? Does the HD LED flash as though its trying to load an OS? Does the CDROM or floppy start up? Have you reset the BIOS? Have you removed the MB reset leads? Have you checked to see if anything is physically loose on the MB? PS connections? Anything shorting on the MB? Have you removed the IDE cables? (if backwards that may prevent startup) Have you tested the monitor on another system? My steps would be to reduce the system to minimal components. Remove all PCI devices except the video, remove all but one of the ram sticks, disconnect all HD and extra cables, except for the speaker. If you suspect the case, remove the MB, PS and video and test on a workbench. Use newspaper as an insulator so parts don't touch.
Yeah, it can't be the graphics card because it works on other computers, and I tried a different one as well. The mobo doesn't have an obboard slot. I don't understand the last question, I can't get anything to display so i dont know how i'd go about getting to bios
If you have another working computer - start it up and watch the screen as it starts. Somewhere it will give a brief message like hit f1 or maybe hit f12 or maybe hit delete to enter system bios. If you never worked with the system bios - be careful because you can change a lot of things - but you can also return it to default. You should be able to find out from mobo manufacturer what keys take you to bios - there you should be able to see if mobo reads all hardware like graphics card, hard drive etc. I have never had a system that would not enter bios - If that is case - my guess would be mobo bad ? google "bios" for some more info also check this http://support.microsoft.com/KB/314503

What you need to do is find out what key enters the system bios, f1, f12 , delete are the most common. As soon as you press the power button - just keep hitting that key and see if computer will display the bios on screen. If you can get that on - you may find that problem. Anyone else out there have any ideas ?? Try the brightness on the moniter but since you've changed almost everything in it and tryed a different motherboard, im geussing its cursed or hexed or something...
