Hey guys, I've had my PC for about ....6 months now and I just started overclocking it.

2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6750, with the Akasa Zen Freezer 7 Pro, overclocked @ 3.4GHz (425x8 FSB) 50'C @ 100% Load

And it was working fine for about 2 weeks but now it just keeps crashing after 10 minutes of gameplay, in any game, and I can't turn the game off because the screen just goes black so I have to restart.

Any suggestions?

Also, I'm using a Gigabyte Radeon HD3850 512MB and I overclocked it a little bit, recently I just set it back to default but increased the memory/core clocks slightly higher than default, I haven't tested it yet though.

very simple STOP OVERCLOCKING YOUR MACHINE!!

You bought a 2.66 Ghz processor so clearly it is not capable of going up to 3.4 like you have it set. So either the machine is shutting off more then likely because it is overheating to the point where its trying to protect its self or you already did screw your machine up.

SO if you want a machine at 3.4 Ghz then buy one don't try and get one to go that high.

Clearly you don't know the capability of Core 2 Duos, I could get this thing upto 3.6 if I pushed, and I have about 3 fans in my tower and it's only going 50c. It's stable, I've ran 3D Mark 06 about 4 times and ORTHOS to stress both of the cores, nothing wrong.

im with rogeball dont overclock, if you really wanted those speeds put out the money for it.

other then that, yea imma also assume its overheating and say its shutting its self down. so my advice "and i dont use intel" is to slow it down for a few weeks and see what happnes.

The problem was , I overclocked my graphics card.
I put it back to default.

Fine. Or it could've been something to do with the PC, I must've had to restart or something.

It works fine now...

LMAO. It is more than capable of 3.4GHz stable. I've had mine safely up to 3.8GHz which ran dual Orthos Prime for 80+ hours. And others have had it up over 4GHz stable on air cooling.

Overclocking is perfectly safe if you know what you're doing. Besides, there is no currently available processor at 3.4GHz so I see no point in your statement.

I wouldn't put it so harshly, but yes you guys are. Do your research before you decide to give advice.

Oh, and for the record, don't ever OC your graphics card. They aren't as OC friendly as CPUs.

They are noobs, but chrono, your system's crashing like that probably because you overclocked your GPU without testing. Leave the GPU stock to test the CPU.

I recommend you don't OC your graphics card at all. I have mine on a slight(50MHz) OC but generally it isn't a very good idea. The performance increase is usually not worth the price of a new video card if something goes wrong.

Indeed, overclocking a graphics card is nothing like overclocking a processor. Soph was quite lucky and got a big overclock on his 3870, but rarely do you see significant gains.

It's harsh but true though, the solution to overclocking causing issues not just to 'not overclock', that defeats the point.
