I am using my old HP 19 inch LCD monitor in my child's room and I thought I could connect it to an old dvd player I'm not using any more. The DVD player is a Philips DVP642. My monitor only has a VGA connection, and the DVD player only has the standard video, s-video, or component video. I bought a vga to component video cable thinking that it would work b/c the max resolution on my monitor is 1280X1024 and I figured that it would work, but all I have is a black screen. I don't want to spend much money to make this work, I just wanted to use some stuff around the house that was collecting dust. Anyone have a cheap solution to this?

    Thanks very much!

what I meant to say was, not just a cheap solution, but a solution. If it's going to cost me something extra, that's fine as long as someone knows how to fix this. Thanks a bunch!
