I have just bought a new Xbox 360 for a present. When I took it too the local computer shop who flashed my xbox they said its got a new BENQ drive and it can't be flashed. Mine is an elite with a BENQ and that's been flashed by the same shop.

How long has this 'new' BENQ drive been out?

Is a flash expected soon?

Thanks in advance for your help

It can be flashed, it just is harder to do than some drives. And requires a very particular SATA card/chipset.

If it's the "new" one, then it's the Lite-On... not the Benq. The trays are the same. The only way to tell the difference is to look at the label on the drive. It'll say Phillips & Lite-On instead of Phillips & Benq.

And the Lite On can not be flashed yet.

Right, so it would be Philips/LiteOn, not Philips/Benq.

What do you mean very particular? it's the cheapest SATA PCI card that's how it was discovered. And you can find it anywhere.

Is there any way to tell without voiding the warranty? I have lot0818 team FDOU and it looks like a Ben-Q.

There's another thread right below. Lot #0816 and under you'll be safe. You should avoid anything higher if you don't want to get that new Lite-on. At least in my area the highest lot number I've seen as of this weekend is 0810 which as at least a good thing for now.

So can the dvd-rom be determined without voiding the warranty?

Not between the Benq and Lite On.

Actually, you can, and I have it :( Take off the faceplate and look where the number 3 hole is on that guys post over at X-Scene. If you see 2 white wires you are GTG. If you see 2 slender yellow wires on the left you have my disease.
